Co-Operating for maximum hurdels

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=61039 and this thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=60701 Since paddling the ball between two robots on the same lane would be illegal, and the TRACKBALL must touch the floor or another robot before it can touch the original scoring robot i was thinking of a situation as describe in the attachment. 1)Two robots from the same alliance work together, each in a separate lane. 2)BlueBot-A, in the blue homestretch lifts a blue trackball and places it on the overpass. 3)BlueBot-B, in the red homestretch, reaches over the LANE DIVIDER and grabs the trackball and places it on the red OVERPASS 4)The trackball has now hurdled (as far as I can tell) 5) BlueBot-A, reaches over the LANE DIVIDER and grabs the trackball and places it on the blue OVERPASS 6)the trackball has now passed the opposing teams finish line and can be scored with again. 7)GoTo: step 3 (i.e. Repeat from step 3) Does this work? -Leav |

You can only extend a maximum of 80" horizontally, so you can only reach so far. I am unsure if this rule stops this tactic or not, but great idea:)

The problem is that you would get a penalty each time because the robots are extending their arms in the clockwise direction, and crossing lines in that way too. This is prohibited and penalized. If you could build a robot that could extend it's arm over one overpass, over the lane divider, and then place the ball on the other overpass, all inside the aforementioned 80" limit... (<R16>) and you had two robots like that in one alliance... then you could try this strategy out.... -Leav |

I thought about something quite similar yet different.
What if one robot from red alliance, for instance, hurdles the ball over the overpass, second robot bumps the ball back to the first robot while the ball crosses under the overpass, now the first robot hurdles it again. Now you repeat this as many times as possible. First, is it legal ? I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be permitted but I'm not sure about it, and the rules don't help much.. :ahh: |

<G13> A TRACKBALL that has CROSSED its own FINISH LINE must CROSS the opponent’s FINISH LINE before it can score by CROSSING its own FINISH LINE again.
If I understand what you're describing, the ball would not cross the blue finish line between hurdles. |

no you could make it cross by just making the arm go forward then back
but the only problem would be that the ball would have to touch the ground or an opposing robot before can be scored the opponents overpass isnt the ground unless you somehow make it reach over the over pass and drop down touch the ground and come back up again ( i would love to see someone pull that off ) |

With the right angle the ball can bounce back to you letting you hurdle it again but I'm in doubt as to whether teams will carry that tactics out.
Still I can't get it, can you bump the ball back or not ? :confused: |

I too, thought of something similar to this idea - but here is how imagined it would work.
Bot1 is in the quadrant just past the alliance finishline. Bot1 gets the trackball and passes the ball over the dividing wall to Bot2. Bot 1 stays inside of that quadrant. Bot1 would have to be a hurdler bot. Bot2 is in the opposing alliances' 'homestretch' quadrant, and receives the trackball from Bot 1 and rolls/hurds it under the opposing alliance's overpass (this was my thought before they repealled G36, so you could use a hurdling bot in this case, too) toward Bot3. Bot 2 never crosses the opposing alliance's finishline, and never leaves that quadrant. Bot2 could be any hurder bot. Bot3 is in the quadrant just past the opposing alliance's finishline and receives the rolled ball from Bot 2. Bot3 passes the trackball over the dividing wall and over the alliance overpass to Bot1. Bot1 doesn't cross any finishline, staying inside of that quadrant. Bot3 would have to be a hurdler bot, but would have to have a long arm that could push the ball not just over the wall, but far enough to cross the overpass as well - at least a 45 inch reach. A variant on this approach is that instead of passing the balls over the dividing walls (especially if they don't have a bot who can either pass it over the wall or who can cross the overpass from the opposite side) is that the two hurdling robots carry/hurd the ball around to the opposite quadrant 180 degrees around the track, hurdling the trackball when the get to the overpass. And the hurding bot is just past the alliance finish line to make sure the trackball is controlled after the trackball hurdles the alliance overpass. They would stay in that quadrant during the game. The rotation continues until the end game, when the bot on the opposite side continues around and places the trackball on the overpass. |
