Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
As one of the members of the scoring table crew that helped get the Murphy's Law Regional, err Peachtree Regional, finished, I cannot put into words how proud I am of the entire organization of volunteers, staff, and teams that helped make this regional the most memorable one in FIRST history. It was a great effort to come up with a very fair and decent way to run the elimination rounds and kudos go to the entire crew. Erick Kobres, Robert May, Tom Watson, and Ed Sparks who handled the field controls. Jan Spurlin and her fantastic group of referees for doing what they do best - keeping control over the chaos. Jeff Wickman and his safety advisors for flipping the hybrid (not autonomous) dongles in sync with Jan's checkered flag. Troy and Gene for doing a great job as emcee and game announcers and keeping the audience dancing and having a good time while we delayed. And my two scorekeeper colleagues, Ryan and Stephanie for keeping the timers and time announcements over the audio and screams of the crowd. But most importantly, to all of the teams and students for showing the patience and gracious professionalism that we all know we get from being part of FIRST. This is why I do this and why I keep coming back for more and more.
Based on all of the noise and excitement of the match, you couldn't tell that we were running completely manually. Thank you for all of the support that you gave us while we were trying to fix things and thank you for all the kind words that you said after we were finished. It truly was inspiring. Mannie Lowe |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Ditto All of the comments above.
As a spectator in the stands it was impressive to listen to everyone - not one complaint, but lots of empathy for the folks trying to resolve the problem. The kids handled it exceptionally well. FIRST at it's best ... We had a blast, OTTO will be back in black next year! Congrats to all! p.s. It looks like we'll see about 25% of you again in 10 days at Palmetto! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I just want to echo all the great kudos to the folks that kept things going. They did a great job. Just great.
The little problems we had inside of the building was nothing to what some of the people in the area was experiencing with bad storms and property damage and such. It is my understanding that there were team injuries outside the event due to the storms and we pray for all to be well and good with those folks. Congrats to the award winning teams. The CA and EI awards went to some tremendously great teams. And we have a new team the WireCats that took the Rookie award. Congrats and thanks to all. |

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
On behalf of 1533 Triple Strange I'd like to extend our deepest, sincerest thanks to the people who worked so hard to get things going again after the communication failure on the field. Plan B worked flawlessly (as far as I could tell) and the elimination rounds were as exciting as ever. I was also impressed with the crowd's behavior and attitude, including the odd "we got spirit" shouting match with team 34 across the arena. Gracious and professional all the way.
Thanks also to all the teams who participate, and congratulations to the award winners. I've been an engineer for 20-odd years now and like to think of myself as a pretty creative person, and I always leave Peachtree awed and inspired by the creativity and teamwork that goes on. It's just brilliant. I'd like to mention that the interaction between teams not only in the pits but in the stands at Peachtree is exceptional - we've been to other tournaments where there just isn't the same comraderie. Particular thanks to our #5 alliance partners 2119 WAR and 1311 Kell for the second year in a row. Next time, we'll get 'em. Best wishes to team 1648's driver, who got injured when his windshield blew in on him while driving in the storm on Friday night. We hope you have a speedy recovery. Good luck to everyone at their upcoming regionals. See you next year. - Steve |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Congratulations to Mannie Lowe for receiving Volunteer of the Year, you certainly deserved it after all of your contributions. Also, congratulations to Jeremy Roberts for receiving the Woodie Flowers Award. Jeremy was one of my mentors as a freshman in high school on team 1002 and has gone on to mentor team 1848 as well as work on the Peachtree Regional Committee and the Game Design Committee. Now that I have become a mentor myself, it is especially great to see his incredible work be recognized by the regional. Thanks for everything Jeremy! Best of luck to everyone at future regionals and see you at Championships! :)

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Well 2080 is back at home and I just wanted to show thanks to Peachtree for making us feel at home so here are some thank you's
First off to the crew and all volunteers we know just how much work you put into the regional and we are very grateful for letting us have so much fun. To the referees, thank you so much for helping us out on penalty clarity and rule clarity. We know you didn't have to but you did. And especially to one referee, I'm sorry i never caught your name but the ref who was on the blue alliance side making sure we were all ready. I was very grateful for you to notice the blazer difference and you changed you bump to a finger point for me everytime It something small like that that is what FIRST is all about. To team 1771, I just wanted to thank you for helping so much with our pneumatics problem, that you didn't have to help with, but you took time out of working on your robot to help us. To team 442, for letting us use your longer tether cable. Probably some more to team 442 i should thank but i cannot remember right now. To team 34, thank you for the award we really appreciate you noticing all the hard work we put into a robot. To the programmer who helped to take off our hybrid. Sorry i Can't remember your team name right now, but you know who you are. If you would not have helped us so tremendously we would have caused a ten point penalty each match. to team 1319 for giving us a ride the first day because the shuttle would not bring us early. And for also checking up on us the whole regional. And I just want to congratulate team 547, 1319, and 343 for winning the regional you guys really deserved it. And also team 34 for winning the Regional Chairmans award you really deserved that too. Sorry if the post is kind of long just wanted to put it all in. Hope to see you again next year. |

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I am a little late on this but...
Thanks for 281 and 2007 for being our alliance partners. It was a short lived but very fun ride. Thanks to all the crew and volunteers at Peachtree for making an amazing recovery during the playoffs. Thanks to Mr. Rosen for helping us out when we were in need even after we all graduated from 1002. Thanks to the RoboJackets and 2420 for helping us when we needed it. Thanks to 1533 for your amazing scouting again that helped a lot of us make our picks. Thanks to 1002 for the cyber center. Thanks to kell and Mr. Barker for all the help you have given us this year. Without it, I don't know where we would be. Congrats to the winning alliance. That was an incredibly well put together alliance A BIG Congrats to Jeremy for winning his Woodie Flowers award and another huge shout out to Mannie for winning the volunteer of the year award. I couldn't think of two more deserving people this year than you guys. Congrats and thanks for all that you have done for the regional and us at 2415. |

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Hey all,
Well it's been two weeks so I'm thinking some of the emails on that student-to-student email list just aren't checked often after all :P If anyone from the following teams would kindly pm me with an email address or just directly email me, that would be great... students preferred, I'm not an official team rep or anything, this is just casual... (plus students tend to reply to random emails more often than adults I think :P). Or hey if you know someone on that team point them in this direction, that'd be cool. 442 832 834 1057 1127 1287 1319 1398 1414 1439 1746 1788 1795 1845 1999 2038 2393 2463 2640 Such a sadly long list =( I wonder if I am getting spamfiltered... I'll try and track down emails via google / CD memberlist later, but for now I'm too lazy :P Thanks! |
