1379 can't wait to be there (at least after the robot is built).
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
1319 will be racing down that way. We hope to find some good competition. The last time we were at the Peachtree regional was my first year on robotics, wow, time flies.

I'm a mentor for Team 1379 (Norcross).
I'm thinking about running a code review at this regional. Would there be any interest? If there's enough interest, I'd like to try to get a space for it. If we do it, I'd also like to have programmers or mentors from other teams sit in on the reviews. Any takers? --buddy |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I'll be at Peachtree again as your Lead Inspector.......
I hope all of you have been reading those rules and updates !!! My wish list of things I hope I don't have to deal with: 1. Flag stick holders that aren't constructed per the rules. Honestly, there is only one approved design. Please build it this way. 2. 4" x 3/4 stroke team numbers that utilize contrasting colors. Folks need to see your team number from 100 feet. Scribbling your team number on a sheet of notebook paper with a #2 pencil just isn't going to get it. 3. Modifications to the "Standard Bumper" design. The rules are quite clear on how bumpers are to be constructed but I fear that some may try to "improve" the standard design. 4. Illegal gearboxes/Illegal motors. This one hurts the most for me because it's such a long process to find legal parts and get the team back in competition. A good example of this is the BaneBots 12:1 56mm CIM Gearbox (P/N GP-56012) from last year. Please know that my intent for the Peachtree Regional is to HELP you get through inspection with a robot that meets the rules. If you feel strongly that an inspector as ruled wrongly on any issue, please ask to speak to the lead inspector. That's what I'm there for. I'm looking forward to seeing you all March 13-15. Good luck! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Awesome list Ed, Thanks
Suggestion: You may want to add sharp edges to the list ... See you next week! |

In the picture, our robot is in its starting position, but during the match the claw opens up, and uses the roller at the top to pick up the ball. We have a 6WD with the center wheel dropped by 1/4". We cant wait to compete at the Peachtree Regional in less than a week!
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
hey all from 1261 =)
Does anyone know if there are any plans to videotape the Peachtree Regional? (if thebluealliance.net has a peachtree volunteer?) |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Hey guys, here is our robot as of week 5
http://wiredcats2415.com/wiredcats/videos.html Also on this link is our animation. Our robot is a 6wd powered by 4 Cims A vandoor motor powers the hinge and it is an FP that does the sucking. This was the very first time they tested the robot so it isn't the best driving the arm moves a bit faster now and they can do around 4 hurdles in 2 minutes on an empty field. All these other robots look GREAT. Cant wait to see you all Thursday |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Is there going to be a webcast of the Peachtree Regional? So far, I have been unable to find any listing, etc. Please reply if you know.
The www.metalinmotion.com web page has pictures of several area machines that I think are coming to Peachtree. Please scroll down the home page and click on the respective picture for a closer view. Good luck to all teams this year.:) |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
according to http://robotics.arc.nasa.gov/events/...s.php#webcasts there will not be a webcast for Peachtree
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Sup, 1261 back online,
Here are A LOT of pics for our robot. Have fun Feel free to look it up and ... http://www.prhsrobotics.com/team/gal...p?g2_itemId=13 We'll see you all at regional. |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
is there not a team that has the resources that is willing to do a webcast? b/c i dont think we have the neccessary tools...
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
It will definately be a long Friday for me without a webcast! Hopefully someone has just forgotten to list where to find it. I also noticed on the official Peachtree webpage that the team listings for this regional are teams from 2006! Goodness.
Good luck to all teams this year. |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
meh... Well what sort of resources are required for a webcast or even an uploadable video archive of the regional? I've (personally, not team) wanted archives for a few years now :D They're cool to show sponsors...
Oh, and am I going crazy or is there some reason MiM isn't listed on the offical team list for Peachtree Regional, https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index....mlist&event=GA ? Are there other teams coming that aren't on there? O.o |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
It's definitely there. Sort by team number and look again. Team 343 is definitely on that least. However, their official name, as lister there, might be something different than Metal In Motion. The official name usuall mentions a few, or all sponsors, as well as the sponsoring schools.
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Hi, Nancy:
We are listed as the School District of Oconee County and are the third team listed on the numerically sorted list. I guess we are considered an "old timer" team as we are in the three digit spectrum. MiM is for Metal In Motion Team 343. I am unsure about what is required for a web cast. I am disappointed that there isn't one. Surely with the resources available around that metropolitan area, someone would have taken on that challenge. But, maybe someone did and it just didn;t work this year. Good luck to all teams this year!:p |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
There will be a webcast of the regional , will there be not ?!
 |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Hi, Felix:
I am unable to find a link for a web cast from Peachtree. I e-mailed their contact two days ago and received no reply. So, I guess we will be "blacked out" on this one. Good luck everyone. Good luck to your team(s) Felix. :D |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Yes, there will be no webcast for this regional. Next year we will definetly try to help in putting a webcast up but until then, sorry everyone.
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
@ Gil and Sumadin:
Yes, sorry about that, 'twas user error indeed, doh! =) So, as for archiving (and hopefully later uploading) the regional videos, we were able to find the orange press box (it's right next to the TV! Never paid attention to it before :D) after asking the nice people behind the curtain. Apparently we're bringing in the correct cables, a laptop, and an external HD (just in case) to grab stuff from the press box. Can anyone help us with regards to all the other stuff (compression, transcoding, parsing into matches, etc.) ? I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow :O Whew, what a long day! Yay for passing inspection at 120.0 lbs (don't breath on it!) :P Good luck tomorrow everyone! :D ==Other threads of use for recorders== <Archiving Recorded Regionals 2008> http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?p=717374 <Video Recording Station> aka "press box" http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?p=717747 |

Was able to record all the matches today using a MacBook and some discontinued hardware (note for next year). Will have to compress them and put them on our site later.

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I've been told that the weather in Atlanta has knocked out the scoring computer, and that the elim matches started about 3 hours late and are being scored manually.
In addition, there is severe weather in the area again. Hope everyone stays safe and has a safe trip home tonight. |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Yes, that was true. Not sure who the winners were. After the hail the weather calmed down, but the managing table was not able to communicate with the red side of the field. So, we had to go to manual scoring and using Dongles to run matches.
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Just got back for observing peachtree. It was pretty intence, the whole field was down for the first three hours of elim. matches and they had to write some now code to display all the scores and the time. I have to say, I honor those IFI guys, I can't even image how much stress they were under in that time frame.
|
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
they ended up getting it working after those three hours waiting. the #1 seeded alliance ended up winning. I believe the members were:
343 Metal in Motion 1319 547 It was a great regional once again, and good luck to everyone who is going to either another regional or the championship event in atlanta! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Agreed. The IFI crew and the entire field team deserve a big thanks for keeping things running as smoothly as they did after the wait. As far as I know the only real issue they had after starting elimination matches was losing power midway through one match (which we were in, so I could have missed something in another match). It reminds you how so much of what we're doing has the same type of problems that happen in real life.
Thanks for a great regional! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Yes, there was a 3 hour delay. The staff did a great job trying to get the scoring system fixed and an even better job manually scoring each elimination match. Ryan Stewart also did a great job announcing how much time was left. Once the matches started, everything seemed to go well with only one matched replayed due to power to the robots stopping with under a minute to play. :)
Dave |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
The scoring was apparently knocked out when the building was struck by lightening. All the staff and volunteers did a great job organizing a way to continue the regional with the system down. They all deserve a big thanks.
We were in the match that power was lost. Apparently, it was actually caused because someone slipped and hit the button to end the match... They just treated the match as if it were a tie and continued the finals on a normal schedule. |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Hmm... apparently there was a webcast! O.o
http://robotics.arc.nasa.gov/events/...s.php#webcasts Also, again thanks to the IFI crew & congrats to 343, 1319, and 547! And of course, thanks to our alliance partners, 832 (Oscar!) for picking us and 1648 (Grady Gearbox) for a good run in the elimination matches =) <--newly refreshed from a 14 hour nap :] and in denial about built-up homework... |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Team 343 would like to thank 1319 for picking us! we were really excited at the opportunity to play with FLASH. and thanks to 547 for rounding out a great #1 seeded alliance to take it home!
thanks to everyone there for making this a great regional! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Congrats to 343,1319,547 on a great competition and to 34 the 2008 Peachtree Chairman's Award winner.
A special thanks to the entire field crew that after a long delay in an attempt to repair the field electronics managed to create a work around that was reasonable and fair for all. I would also like to thank the Peachtree Regional committee and volunteers for putting on another great event. Every year this event is exactly what you would want for the student. Great competition, great people, and tons of fun. Thank you everyone!! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional

EVERYONE involved with running the field deserves props. I happened to be one of the "IFI GUYS" on Saturday. I was training under Tom Watson because I'll be representing IFI at the Bayou regional in week 5. The issue with the field really was not with the IFI Arena Controllers. It seems that the red control unit lost communication to the main field management system. IFI is responsible for the communication between the robots and the field management system, not for the field management system itself. When something like this happens, it doesn't matter who you work for or what your responsible for, everyone works together to "Get 'er done". After several attempts to replace various pieces of equipment and cables, FIRST determined that we should go to the back up plan which involved setting up dongles on each player station. Tom Watson of IFI came up with a startup sequence that was safe to the robots and the setup folks on the field, the green shirt "Safety Guys" stepped up to help us flip those dongle switches in the right sequence and at the right time, The head ref synched all of us up with that checkered flag. All in all it went amazingly well after we worked out the bumps with a couple practice runs. 2 points I want to stress ..... 1. The teams involved were VERY gracious and professional. I didn't hear a single negative comment the whole time even though things were a little confusing in the beginning. Thanks to all of you! 2. I pray this doesn't happen again, especially to me when I'm in the Bayou. :D |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
tHANKS!! to Ed Sparks and Tom Watson and the rest of the field crew, officials and safety judges for getting us up and running again. After plan B was in place everything went smoothly.
It was interesting that very few of those songs that we have come to associate with our FIRST experience were played during the seeding rounds, or at least I didn't hear them. So during the delay we were treated to a FIRST dance marathon that involved ALL of those favorites plus a few more! The end result was that all the kids were too tired to complain much even if they had been inclined to. Many of the students were on the floor having a nap. Whether by design or happenstance, it was a good idea. |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Gene here, the guy that took over for Sir Charles for the eliminations (did he know about the coming problems before grabbing me out of the pits to take over?).
I want to add to Ed's comments! I was more than extremely impressed with everyone’s patience with what was going on on the field. I too never heard one complaint about the delay. It's moments like these that keep me coming back. My hat is off to everyone that participated in the Peachtree Regional. Thank you for letting me be part of this great event! Keep up the GP throughout your life! … and pass it on! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
As one of the members of the scoring table crew that helped get the Murphy's Law Regional, err Peachtree Regional, finished, I cannot put into words how proud I am of the entire organization of volunteers, staff, and teams that helped make this regional the most memorable one in FIRST history. It was a great effort to come up with a very fair and decent way to run the elimination rounds and kudos go to the entire crew. Erick Kobres, Robert May, Tom Watson, and Ed Sparks who handled the field controls. Jan Spurlin and her fantastic group of referees for doing what they do best - keeping control over the chaos. Jeff Wickman and his safety advisors for flipping the hybrid (not autonomous) dongles in sync with Jan's checkered flag. Troy and Gene for doing a great job as emcee and game announcers and keeping the audience dancing and having a good time while we delayed. And my two scorekeeper colleagues, Ryan and Stephanie for keeping the timers and time announcements over the audio and screams of the crowd. But most importantly, to all of the teams and students for showing the patience and gracious professionalism that we all know we get from being part of FIRST. This is why I do this and why I keep coming back for more and more.
Based on all of the noise and excitement of the match, you couldn't tell that we were running completely manually. Thank you for all of the support that you gave us while we were trying to fix things and thank you for all the kind words that you said after we were finished. It truly was inspiring. Mannie Lowe |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Ditto All of the comments above.
As a spectator in the stands it was impressive to listen to everyone - not one complaint, but lots of empathy for the folks trying to resolve the problem. The kids handled it exceptionally well. FIRST at it's best ... We had a blast, OTTO will be back in black next year! Congrats to all! p.s. It looks like we'll see about 25% of you again in 10 days at Palmetto! |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I just want to echo all the great kudos to the folks that kept things going. They did a great job. Just great.
The little problems we had inside of the building was nothing to what some of the people in the area was experiencing with bad storms and property damage and such. It is my understanding that there were team injuries outside the event due to the storms and we pray for all to be well and good with those folks. Congrats to the award winning teams. The CA and EI awards went to some tremendously great teams. And we have a new team the WireCats that took the Rookie award. Congrats and thanks to all. |

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
On behalf of 1533 Triple Strange I'd like to extend our deepest, sincerest thanks to the people who worked so hard to get things going again after the communication failure on the field. Plan B worked flawlessly (as far as I could tell) and the elimination rounds were as exciting as ever. I was also impressed with the crowd's behavior and attitude, including the odd "we got spirit" shouting match with team 34 across the arena. Gracious and professional all the way.
Thanks also to all the teams who participate, and congratulations to the award winners. I've been an engineer for 20-odd years now and like to think of myself as a pretty creative person, and I always leave Peachtree awed and inspired by the creativity and teamwork that goes on. It's just brilliant. I'd like to mention that the interaction between teams not only in the pits but in the stands at Peachtree is exceptional - we've been to other tournaments where there just isn't the same comraderie. Particular thanks to our #5 alliance partners 2119 WAR and 1311 Kell for the second year in a row. Next time, we'll get 'em. Best wishes to team 1648's driver, who got injured when his windshield blew in on him while driving in the storm on Friday night. We hope you have a speedy recovery. Good luck to everyone at their upcoming regionals. See you next year. - Steve |
Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Congratulations to Mannie Lowe for receiving Volunteer of the Year, you certainly deserved it after all of your contributions. Also, congratulations to Jeremy Roberts for receiving the Woodie Flowers Award. Jeremy was one of my mentors as a freshman in high school on team 1002 and has gone on to mentor team 1848 as well as work on the Peachtree Regional Committee and the Game Design Committee. Now that I have become a mentor myself, it is especially great to see his incredible work be recognized by the regional. Thanks for everything Jeremy! Best of luck to everyone at future regionals and see you at Championships! :)

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
Well 2080 is back at home and I just wanted to show thanks to Peachtree for making us feel at home so here are some thank you's
First off to the crew and all volunteers we know just how much work you put into the regional and we are very grateful for letting us have so much fun. To the referees, thank you so much for helping us out on penalty clarity and rule clarity. We know you didn't have to but you did. And especially to one referee, I'm sorry i never caught your name but the ref who was on the blue alliance side making sure we were all ready. I was very grateful for you to notice the blazer difference and you changed you bump to a finger point for me everytime It something small like that that is what FIRST is all about. To team 1771, I just wanted to thank you for helping so much with our pneumatics problem, that you didn't have to help with, but you took time out of working on your robot to help us. To team 442, for letting us use your longer tether cable. Probably some more to team 442 i should thank but i cannot remember right now. To team 34, thank you for the award we really appreciate you noticing all the hard work we put into a robot. To the programmer who helped to take off our hybrid. Sorry i Can't remember your team name right now, but you know who you are. If you would not have helped us so tremendously we would have caused a ten point penalty each match. to team 1319 for giving us a ride the first day because the shuttle would not bring us early. And for also checking up on us the whole regional. And I just want to congratulate team 547, 1319, and 343 for winning the regional you guys really deserved it. And also team 34 for winning the Regional Chairmans award you really deserved that too. Sorry if the post is kind of long just wanted to put it all in. Hope to see you again next year. |

Re: 2008 PeachTree Regional
I am a little late on this but...
Thanks for 281 and 2007 for being our alliance partners. It was a short lived but very fun ride. Thanks to all the crew and volunteers at Peachtree for making an amazing recovery during the playoffs. Thanks to Mr. Rosen for helping us out when we were in need even after we all graduated from 1002. Thanks to the RoboJackets and 2420 for helping us when we needed it. Thanks to 1533 for your amazing scouting again that helped a lot of us make our picks. Thanks to 1002 for the cyber center. Thanks to kell and Mr. Barker for all the help you have given us this year. Without it, I don't know where we would be. Congrats to the winning alliance. That was an incredibly well put together alliance A BIG Congrats to Jeremy for winning his Woodie Flowers award and another huge shout out to Mannie for winning the volunteer of the year award. I couldn't think of two more deserving people this year than you guys. Congrats and thanks for all that you have done for the regional and us at 2415. |

Hey all,
Well it's been two weeks so I'm thinking some of the emails on that student-to-student email list just aren't checked often after all :P If anyone from the following teams would kindly pm me with an email address or just directly email me, that would be great... students preferred, I'm not an official team rep or anything, this is just casual... (plus students tend to reply to random emails more often than adults I think :P). Or hey if you know someone on that team point them in this direction, that'd be cool. 442 832 834 1057 1127 1287 1319 1398 1414 1439 1746 1788 1795 1845 1999 2038 2393 2463 2640 Such a sadly long list =( I wonder if I am getting spamfiltered... I'll try and track down emails via google / CD memberlist later, but for now I'm too lazy :P Thanks! |
