List of Rules

I realize that all the rules are present within the manual, but has someone, or could someone go through the manual and compile a list of the rules and take out all the un-needed information about how the game is played. It seems to me that a majority of the rules are within the game and the robot sections of the manual but I think it would be very beneficial for someone to make a compilation of all the rules.

I wouldn't say there's any un-needed information in the rules. Just about everything in the "Game" and "Robot" sections is important. We have a compilation of the rules... it's called the FIRST manual ;)

Hear hear! Jeff is right. I don't think there's a real need to compile the rules by eliminating any unnecessary trim, since there really isn't. I suppose if you've been in competition since the dawn of FIRST, you might be able to skip a FEW rules in the robot section regarding things such as the re-use of previous robots (that's a no-no). But if you REALLY want to trim down your manual reading, and you know somebody else on your team is going to read the whole manual, read sections 7 and 8 thoroughly, seeing as that's where the rules regarding A) the game and B) the requirements of your robot, are listed.

The manual is your friend - ALL of it. Read It. Learn It. Know It.

Once the competitions start, you will be much happier that you did.

The top teams will do exactly as Dave recommends. Work with less than the full manual and you are designing, building and competing with an empty tool box.

Trust me, I know where you're coming from. But coming from someone whose dad is an inspector at competitions, just bite your lip and read through it. You will fail your inspection if you didn't read a rule (hint: make sure to use the right size wire!)

I know, total pain, but if nothing else, it will get you ready for college! :D
