So we had three hints

After watching kickoff the first hint is obvious.

Hint #2 and #3 are still not very clear to me.

I have no idea what hint #2 is about still

Hint #3 goes along with what I thought (I think) and that was that we should unscramble the letters in the sentence. You can spell infared sensor with letters left over.

So is there anywhere that explains the clues or does anyone get what the clues were trying to say?

Re: So we had three hints

1. Hint one is obvious.

2. Hint two was the coordinates of the finish line of the Boston Marathon, which represents the finish lines in the game. As far as I can tell, 342.242026 degrees is the direction that runners would be facing if they turned 90 degrees left after crossing the finish line (as the robots do in this year's game).

3. Hint three was an anagram for "Drive Straight Turn Left", which not only describes what the robots do in this year's game, but with added punctuation is the manual decryption key of "Drive!Straight?Turn!LEFT!?" Hint three also contained the word "hurdling", which is one of the ways score this year. It can't spell "infrared sensor" -- there aren't enough "n"s, "s"s, "o"s or "r"s.

Now it all makes sense. Thanks

Re: So we had three hints

Hint 2 was also Copley SQUARE, GLOBE Cafe and TRINITY Church. The square, circle and triangle of the FIRST logo.

Actually, the correct solution to Hint #2 was slightly different. Go to the indicated coordinates (Copley Square in Boston) and look along a compass heading of 342.242026 degrees, and you will see this:

The "tortoise and hare" connection to racing should be obvious. :) There were a few people in the Hint #2 discussion thread that correctly solved the clue (but didn't know it).

So Dave, care to weigh in (officially or unofficially of course - whatever you prefer) on the robot drive design you personally think will be more advantageous this year?

A slow (turtle) or a speedy (rabbit) one?

Also as a side note, (while looking at that heading) would looking at a Cafe named after a very large sphere (Globe) be part of the intended hint, or just a fluke there seeing as we have a very large sphere as a game object??

I personally think we can pull a lot of "valid" (if not intended) solutions to the clue from that one area which to me is amazing. (Finish line, Tortoise & The Hare, Globe Cafe.. etc...) Very cool clue this year for number 2! Kudos to who thought of that one.

Re: So we had three hints

I stood on that very spot on Christmas Eve, (right before church) on that compass heading looking at the Globe Cafe in the background through the uprights......I'm trying to remember if the Tortoise and Hare were still out or not. I'm thinking the City picked them up for the winter??? I don't remember them being there........but then again, according to Jack Kentfield, I'm old.

(I'm look at my pictures when I get home)

also, the solution to hint-3 was published here by someone who did not know what he had. I had the key to the decrypt code but didn't know what lock it was for.
of couse with added punctuation it really didn't match the exact key.

It was Fun

Let's not forget that there was also the "For the two - this season is for you." that appeared in Dave's signature (my only success on that one was noticing it). At the time, somebody quickly observed that it could be a reference to his rovers, which turned out to be correct (but aren't dedications normally to people?).

I haven't heard of anyone making the least sense of Woodie's clue, though.

Actually, no, that was not a correct interpretation.

I do not think it is about the drive train...

Huh? After all that talk about the two rovers at Kick-off, and after explaining how this year's "Hybrid period" was inspired by what is done with them?

OK...one last guess, but then I have to hand this off to better mindreaders than I - "the two" could mean anything!

I'll try this same Tortoise and the Hare as "the two". Perhaps you were simply pointing us away from other, "single", items being discussed (although there were two obelisks, also). A clue about the hint, not a separate hint of its own.

Better?

BTW, thanks for all the great work you & your team does! :]

No, that isn't it. Just so you know, that line (just like its successor) had nothing to do with the game, but everything to do with the teams. And I won't talk about what it means until the season is over.

And thank you for the closing comment. It is appreciated.

Re: It was Fun

Dave,
I figured out the tortoise and hare thing and the rest... AND I warned my team not to take TOO much time worrying over what it all means... (In reality, you couldn't give a hint that actually gave an advantage...wouldn't be fair) But as was reflected by others... Thanks for the great work to design the game!!! You're STILL my personal hero.... but MY wife won't let me build a Smelting furnace in my garage...she just doesn't get it.....

Best Wishes
