At the competition will there be designated remotes?

First off, at the moment I'm working on the IR board, and it's very easy to configure and code. However, my problem is that I don't know if we are able to buy a specific remote, although I'm quite sure that the answer is no.

However, second is that it is necessary to know how signals are to not get crossed, as, I find it difficult that a series of remotes around 38KHz will not trigger each other to do certain things. In this case, how are we to prevent this, other than "Blinders?"

And lastly, I would like to know if they'll supply remotes, for those that may die or interfere with others.

Thanks for all replies, but why can't they put this stuff in the KOP???

who says FIRST is going to make it so there is not interference? maybe thats part of the challenge...to make it work even if there are other remotes...

..idk

I can say with almost complete certainty that FIRST will not supply extra remotes, and will not provide aid for interference. Remember, the IR board is just a suggestion/idea- you don't have to use it; it's just another KOP item.

Teams must bring their own remotes, and even if that remote fails, you can't use another.

What makes you say that (the part in bold)? While teams do have to bring their own remote, I haven't seen anything in the rules that would prevent a team from bringing spare remotes (a VERY good idea), borrowing a remote from another team, or going out and buying a new one at the local Radio Shack if theirs fails. While FIRST likely won't have a supply of remotes on hand, if for some reason you don't have a spare (BRING A SPARE!), I'm sure another team would be willing to help. I don't think there is anything in the rules prohibiting the Robocoach from having a spare remote with them during a match, and reprogramming your IR receiver between matches for a new or borrowed remote is trivial. I can hear the announcements now: "Team 9573 is looking for a spare remote control, and team 190 is looking for a 9 inch PID loop."

I see that this is your first post on the forums (welcome!), but I warn you to be more careful. People that make definitive sounding statements like yours when they are really guessing can cause a lot of hard and grief. Please cite your source (such as a specific rule) when making such a definitive statement, or consider your wording before you post. If you are going to post without citing a source, at least say "I think".
