Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
The LA Regional is the in my opinion one of the toughest and most exciting Regionals in the Southwest. The teams that attend for the most part are consistently bringing with them great machines that do their job, and do it well.
Congrats to 330, 1717, and 980 for an Impressive display this year. Best of luck in Atlanta. |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
Congrats and thank you to our alliance partners in Los Angeles: Teams 330 and 980. We look forward to competing with you in Atlanta! Great job to all of the rest of the teams as well, including the finalists: Teams 294, 702, and 2659.
Thanks also to teams 399 and 1515 in particular, for cheering for us and with us -- we really appreciated your support and enthusiasm. Another congrats to the Chairman's, Engineering Inspiration, and Rookie Inspiration and All-Star winners! We enjoyed competing and meeting all of the other teams. For those competing at further regionals and the championships, best of luck, and to those for whom LA was their last 2008 event, our team looks forward to working with you next year! Although I am a graduating senior, I will do my best to be back at the regional events in '09! Sidenote: Quote:

Thanks to all of the well-wishers to our team!!! We had such a blast in Los Angeles, it was probably the best regional I've been to. It makes me sad that it was the last regional I'll ever be at while I'm a member of my team, but it was definitely an amazing note to end on. Congrats to the winners/finalists! You guys did an awesome job and it was so much fun to watch and cheer for you. Especially all the fun we had cheering with 1717 and MorTorq. See you in Atlanta! And if you're in a dancing mood, don't hesitate to come join us, we love it! |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
Congrats to 330/1717/980 & 399. :)
also, side note to all teams, if you guys are looking for your team flags, i personally delivered (except for like 5 of them) all of them to your pit (unless it was already picked up by someone else of course). I'm quite surprised i kept up with all those flags.. |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
Nica, great job. Every time I was on the field I saw Mark holding the 599 flag. I dont know how you did it either, thats a lot to keep track of. Especially I think he had like 4 or 5 flags one match we had.
Cait1070, its our pleasure to help you gals out. Hope you guys got your robot and controller packed in the crate nicely, and hope its in a better working order for LV. I didnt get to see it, but Van says your hand is insane, and Vicki on your team said their were 6 degrees of freedom. Insane. Lets get back to me thanking teams. 1717, great machine, and hope to see you guys in Atlanta. That lift looks so nice, especially how it looks so elegant in all black. 294, you guys shocked me and sort of went the same route 599 did, an ok performance in SD then a big step up in LA. I was impressed. I really did feel the wave. lol. I like your moto, though I mess up on remembering it all. 980, congrats on the win. I have talked to Dave Brinza at both regionals from start to finish on all days. You guys have had a tough time too and I am glad to see you guys get a break. 207, woodie flowers win, congrats. Also crazy awsome autonomous mode. 4, glad to be right next to you when you scored. That was one of my favorite matches I got to be part of. Good luck for the rest of your season. If you guys need some help in Atlanta or need a part, let me know. I want to see you or hear from you guys that you hurdled now, not just placed a ball. All teams, we are all winners, as corny as that sounds. Thanks for making my last regional a great one. And for everyone going to Atlanta, see you there, on or off the field. |

Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
definitely congrats to the winning teams 1717, 330, 980.
I'm a first year Marketing/PR mentor for Team 2102. I (and my wife) had an amazing time. Everyone lent so much energy to the event. It was crazy to see it ratcheting up in intensity the 2nd and 3rd day. Of course I'm also predicting that ya'll need to stay on your game this coming year because we are only getting better :) Thanks to all the folks who contributed. It was fantastic to see so many people donating their time for such a worthwhile event. |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
Id Like to thank 294 for hurdling so much but especially team 2659 for being such a strong rookie team on and off the team to lead their own alliance and pick up team 702 (Big risk taking on a second lap bot) as one of my team members said once we got picked, "We Will Make it Work" and it was amazing to see our alliance take on the robots we did!
Here at 702 we are all very happy with how things worked out :) Best LA Regional so far! thank you all for making it happen |

Team 1717
I sincerely apologize for the content of the post. I really admire how your team works together, and how well D'Penguineers is structured and organized. My thoughts were not well thought out, I did not mean to be derogatory towards your team. In hindsight the way I communicated them indicated feeling of resentment, I meant to present just a playback of the our regional matches. I apologize for my post in a public forum representing my team. The post was not my teams opinion just me thinking out loud the night after the regional. They were made with unintentional bias. At the time, I did not read my post over throughly enough to see how the comments I made could be seen as rude. Finally, Congratulations to your alliance, Teams 330,1717 and 980. Sincerely. Matthew Baker |

I apologize for offending you by speaking badly of you alliance member team 1717. Please understand, this was not my intention, and I feel great remorse for the trouble and even more for the offending things I said. I was not representing my team, This should have been my first priority on Chief Delphi, representing my team and FIRST in a positive light. Sincerely, Matthew Baker |

The FIRST site has the volunteer application and I am sure that Jim Beck or other regionals would LOVE The help from people that know what is going on. Again Congratulations on your success and I hope to see you as a volunteer or mentor in the years to come. |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
eh, just to show a counter, well almost counter-argument. Go to college, use what you learned. And once you have been out of FIRST and have had some more experience, bring it back to a team. Volunteer, but about mentoring, I am going to wait until I graduate probably, or at least a year off. I dont want to be a college mentor on the team right after high school, it will be like I never left and it could prevent from more progressive experience both on my end and the team I am mentoring in.

Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
I feel like I might have too much "hometeam" pride to mentor another team. Does anyone else have that same problem of not wanting to divide their allegiance to their original high school team?

Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
I agree with Oscar. I would always feel like I am a Robodox, but its not about pride in your team once you leave, at least to me, its about spreading FIRST and creating the best experience for those who are in the program or creating an experience for those to yet to be in the program.
But.... if you wish to stay with 1717, you can just come back and mentor 1717 once you graduate, or maybe from afar with certain aspects like CAD or sending certain designs during the early stages of planning. |
Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
I think you are all right. Loyalty to your original team is tough to set aside. Not sure I could do it either. On the other hand, sharing what you have learned is an unselfish act, maybe the highest honor you can give to another person or team.

Re: 2008 Los Angeles Regional
I have posted a paper in CD-Media with YouTube links to the video clips that I shot of the Elimination & other selected matches at the Los Angeles Regional.
You can also find them by searching YouTube for “FIRST Robotics Los Angeles” or by team number, using the Chief Delphi standard to prefix it with “frc”. For example: “frc330”, “frc1717”, “frc980”, etc. Or just go to: http://www.youtube.com/GaryWHedge |
