That's incredible. How was the machining done??? Looks like CNC possibly???

That is pretty cool. We might try Mech. wheels this year, but who knows. that is awesome. how'd u make it so fast?

In 05, when 190 did mecanum, the chain was short enough (as it appears in these photos) to not need tensioners.

I still worry about the lack of articulation to keep your wheels on the ground. If you lose contact with one wheel (which seems likely with all of the high CoGs we're going to see), you lose control.
Unless you have suspensions I don't see, I'd watch out for control issues emanating from the lack of contact.

This is a veery beautiful chassis. Only concern is the same as everyone else's it may be too low. otherwise it looks pro!

Looks awesome, good luck during the season.

one question... is that legal? o_O

It does not seem to break the rules. Why would it be illegal?

it just seems to big to be legal, maybe they made the chassis to the maximum it could be?

i dont know, it just seems to big

That is primarily an illusion. This robot happens to be a chassis of the "wide" aspect ratio (38" dimension in the front), while most robots you see are of the "long" aspect ratio (38" dimension on the side). Wide aspect ratio robots strike me as an odd choice this year, but to each his own.

Re: Pic: Team 935's nearly complete chassis

First, we have not yet installed the chain tensioners. It actually drives very smooth without them but we are going to add them.

We used mecanum wheels last year with a similar chassis. We never had control issues so we never added suspension. It seems to drive extremely well without it.

The robot was done on a CNC machine.

And like lukevanoort stated we are very close to max dimensions and decided to make the wider longer than it is wide. Since there was a rule that stated that you could reach more than 80 in we decided on this to give us a little more reach.

Thanks for all the replies and feedback.

I'm curious about your reference to a rule "that stated that you could reach more than 80 in".

Could you provide a reference from the manual? The 80 in horizontal distance limit still applies

Looks great. I am drooling

Do I see grips by the wheels so that you can pick it up? Good ideal. Good luck

The only thing I find illegal about that chassis is that it's too nice. You guys did an AWESOME job. I am also curious about manufacturing though. Waterjet perhaps? I don't know if you will have the time, weight, or desire to do so, but I think if you powdercoated it to be your team colors, you would hear people's jaws drop as they see it. Sweeeeeeeet chassis.:D

I've found that sometimes people forget the negation. However, last year's (80") rule was interpreted in such a way as to allow extra length. But, last year's rules do not apply! If you reach more than 80", then you have broken the rule. (I'm working on avoiding that too-long robot.)
