LED's on Relay Ports?

Does anyone know if it's against the rules to a LED directly off a relay port? :o

Can you be a little more clear??

I believe you are asking: Can you use the LED Relay pins on the Operator Interface that are built into the Joystick port to light LEDs.

The answer to that is yes. That is the most common way.

I'm sorry I meant on the RC, instead of connecting a spike

LEDs are not in the KoP, so they would be considered custom circuits. As such, they would be governed by all of the custom circuitry rules. The one you're probably most interested in is <R82>.
Quote:

<R82> Inputs to custom circuits can be connected to the following sources:
* Branch circuit breaker outputs
* Speed controller or relay module outputs
* PWM, relay or digital outputs on Robot Controller
* Switches, potentiometers, accelerometers, sensors, and other additional permitted electronics.

Re: LED's on Relay Ports?

Leet,

You'll want to put a current-limiting resistor in series with the LED. There's only a limited total amount of current available at the RC ports, and tying the LED from output to ground will either draw enough current to burn out the LED or may draw enough current to cause a drop on the RC's internal voltage.

If you need more current than the RC can provide to get to your desired brightness, you _could_ use a Spike or another custom relay (or transistor) and a bigger current limiting resistor to run the LED off 12 Volts. Double check section 8 of the rules to see if what you have in mind is legal.

Steve

P.S. Let me guess - these are indicators to let the Robocoach know what command has been sent? Maybe color coded?
