Different Infared commands every match...

Hey, we were curious with Update 3 that just came out does this mean we can not have more than 4 commands on the robot for every match?? E.G. every match we upload a new set of commands?

well I assume no because you must give the inspector a sheet saying what your codes are, and you only get to write down 4, so I would assume that means you can't change them!

Remember, Update 3 DID NOT change the Robocoach and signaling rules. Therefore, you could have more than one auto mode, which would require more than one card. There is nothing saying that you can only have one mode.

And you do not have to turn in a list to inspection, you have to show a card in the station.

So in theory we could have a different ROBOCOACH card every match?

Could one of your commands on the card be "Toggle power" so if it is already moving it stops and vice versa? You could also do that for a toggle speed? Since its the same button and it is doing the same "Toggle" command would that be allowed?

According to team update 3, the "test" for legality is this:

Does the robot do the same thing every time the button is pressed?

For any kind of toggle, the answer is probably no. So, at this point in time, one button toggles are not a legal RoboCoach command.

I believe you can....

If you are simply telling it while button 1 is pressed go forward until you stop pressing it i think that would be fine....

As far as a go when button one is pressed then stop when it is pressed again...
I would say that violates the rule clarified in Update 3 about how it MUST be the same command every time..

NOTHING TO DO WITH TOPIC NOT WORTH NEW THREAD!
(does anyone here no where to download the 2008 default code??)

THANKS!

Yes. But you need to be sure you have the right card for your auto mode. Wouldn't want you to get penalized for having the wrong actions.:D

You do have a very good point....
Didn't think of that.... :ahh:

I mainly want the 08' code because it has the IR board already in it so we can just test our system out a bit with it....

Huh? Who said there was code with that already in it? Fourth year doing this, and I seriously doubt there will be code with a template for the IR stuff...

how about if you press button 1, activate power forward, UNTIL you press button two, which turns it off. so it's not a toggle. Each button does it's one command (Unless it can't be done, like forward can't start if it's going, the bot can't stop if it's not moving) and you get a "toggle" effect (although at the cost of another button/command.)

That's not a toggle - that's two different actions (Go, Stop) on two different buttons. Sounds perfectly legal.

popo308,
As far as I know, there is no 2008 default code, just like there was no 2007 default code - it's the same as in 2006. The InfraRed sensor board simply hooks up to digital IO pins on the robot.

Relating to Team Update 3, it seems that FIRST still hasn't entirely decided on some things...Toggles are not allowed (although I personally don't see why if it's on-off and therefore equivalent to holding the button), as stated in several Q&A forum responses. However, they have given contradictory responses regarding a "Turn left" command or an "Increment motors" command. The related Q&A posts from team 449 and the answer has been taken down, so I guess we'll have to just wait and see...

Someone in a different thread apparentally "quoted" fromt he default code....

They said they had the 2008 default code and it had preprogramed IR commands for basic tank steer

I will have to see if i can find that thread again
