Make a ChiefDelphi.com iPhone Webclip Icon!

Are you good with graphics?
Are you feeling creative?
Do you want your work to possibly be used by 10s of 20s of iPhone-carrying Chief Delphi users?

We need an iPhone Webclip icon for use on the new custom iPhone home screens.

Specifications:
  • 57x57 PNG
  • Contain '47' and/or 'CD'
  • Black & Orange
Attach it to this thread -- we'll have a poll to vote for the most popular and then I'll make it happen.

Entry Deadline: Monday, January 21.

Just for the reference of the group, the exact shade of CD Orange is RGB 255, 136, 0. Or, in hex, #ff8800.

Black, obviously, is black.

Does anybody know what typeface is used on the 47 in the favicon?

Is Team 47 acceptable?

Woohoo, first one! (but probably not my last) I tried to get CD and 47 in it, but 57px isn't much... I think my next one will just use one or the other.

The favicon font is probably Arial, Arial Black, Tahoma, or Verdana .. not sure.

And any other details about the webclip icon can be found here, for those interested:

And, coincidentally, from that article you should note:
Quote:

47x47 seems to be the usable area
And, it will resize down to 56x56, so make it bigger if you wish. It may come out with an icon that looks more crisp.

And. No more and's.

I kind of got the idea of the iPhone buttons, here it is though:

I couldn't decide if I wanted it to be square or rounded like all the other iPhone icons. So i took a shot at both.
And I think the folks in charge should choose between CD or 47 on the icon - so included both versions for both shapes.

Oh, and did I mention i tried to make it match the favicon, but inverse?
My thoughts were,
a) you can customize your wallpaper, but the default is black. So if the center of the icon is black, it'll merge into the background and won't really look like an icon. So inverse worked, and I left a bit of an orange border.
b) I added a single pixel black border to the outside for the same reason. If you decide to customize your wallpaper, it'll be one of the icons that still pops out, it has defined edges.

Okay...done babbling...

I'd advise against trying to make the icons rounded or glossy to begin with, since the iPhone will automatically round off the corners and add on the same glossy overlay to make the new icons look just like all the rest.

Anyways, here are my first two shots at CD iPhone icons. (I already made one for Team 228, and added the <link rel.. code into the page header file. ;))

My brother made a good point when I showed him this thread - your icons are too GUS-like. They're absolutely great though, very creative!

Actually, they're just in my "cross between Apple and Web 2.0-ish" style of graphics. As it happens the GUS and Chief Delphi colors are both orange and black.

Most of my graphic design work follows that similar style. ;)

IMPORTANT COMMENT TO ALL ARTISTS: The iPhone will put it own light glare effect (the semi-transparent white semicircle on top half) on your icon, so DO NOT add one your self.

Yea, I've noticed that, I hope that wasn't taken the wrong way. Your work is great and I admire Team 228's site.
