Re: FIRST Injuries
Last year our programmer decided to have fun with a drill, an allen wrench, and my side. He thought it would just wrap my shirt up but went to close now I have a cool half circle mark on my side,

Re: FIRST Injuries
Don't know if this counts. We've been playing with our trackball ( see youtube video, "Indestructable Trackball," to know what I'm talking about.). Numerous people have been hit on the head with it, fallen off while balancing on it, including me, and have been body slammed by it, again including me. Some of us have bruises on our fingers by not straightening them when the ball hits them.:yikes:

Re: FIRST Injuries
Nothing severe but it seems that there are about 20 more scars on my hands and knuckles than before FIRST...

Re: FIRST Injuries
Last year, one of our mentors was whacked in the head by our ramp, which wasn't properly fastened while we were moving it at the BAE regional. It wound up cutting part of his head open, and the EMTs had to stitch it back together (either 7 or 9 stitches as I recall.)
So the lesson is, the EMTs at hand at competitions are VERY useful, and it's a REALLY REALLY good thing they are there. As for myself, the worst is probably some gashes, soldering burns, the usual splinters and pinches, and of course, the typical programmer's memory leaks and overflows. :p Jacob |
Re: FIRST Injuries
Last year i was welding up the arm for our bot, the arm was much longer then my welding table and i didnt clamp it. I was just holding ti with my arm while welding it. When I lifted my arm it swug up and the area under where I welded seared my arm and left a scar of the state of Idaho. That day i learned to where my welding jacket while welding =P.

Re: FIRST Injuries
A few times solder globs landing on the skin left little marks. Our team has a good reccord for not getting hurt, worst thing thats ever happened is one guy broke his foot running into the wall when playing Buns up during dinner.

Re: FIRST Injuries
Um, here is a cool story. This is KINDA a first Injury, but not exactly.
On the kickoff day, January 5th, after we watched the video we were supposed to meet at school for the rest of the day. I ditched my team to go Ice skating for my friends birthday... Oh, it was great, I got to hang out with my friends from my sig. Right after they clean the Ice off, I went on the Ice to show off in front of my friends again (I used to play Hockey) as they stood in a circle. I ****ed up and fell. Knocked over my friend as he fell down, his feet went up and came down. I felt a Numb feeling on my finger as I started getting up and laughing about the situation. As I looked at my hand, I noticed a fifth of my pinky was missing. Laughter stopped, as I heard the more vulgar version of "Oh crap" echo through the rink. I put my hand on my finger and ran the hell off the ice on my ice skates. Although it didn't hurt very much, a bunch of my friends were freaked out even though I gave them a sign that I was fine. Anyway, this is what my hand looks like now. http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8996/bettertg3.jpg I lost my finger because I ditched robotics. |

Re: FIRST Injuries
I accidentally left the key in the lathe and turned it on, it spun then flew into my side and gave me a little bruise, hurts a bit but I learned my lesson, yes I did.
I'm also known for dropping stuff on my feet/hands. During the off season, I also milled my finger (not a lot, though). Last year I cut the inside of my hand on a keyway slot. I've got a few poke marks from punches on my fingers. I have a LOT of cut marks on my fingers from sharp edges (I'm the local filing guy, so I feel the edges, and I cut my fingers... even got an aluminium splinter) I hit my head on the overpass yesterday after our bot hit it and we were fixing it. Probably some other stuff, too. =p Like alu dust in my lungs. |
