Re: FIRST Injuries
Two broken fingers on left hand; thanks to a mentor as well (No hard feelings though, it was an accident).
About two minutes after this picture I had my hands on the upper part of the lower arm holding it, and the mentor was holding the end up high and let go without warning; It swung down very fast and pinched the fingers on my left hand which broke one finger and hairline fractured another. It healed pretty quickly though and I'm broken fingers plenty of times so I'm not really upset with that mentor (plus he's a great guy). And as for your injury; care to explain how you got gohneria, syphilis and senioritis on your hand? |
Re: FIRST Injuries
This should be renamed the ode to Tytus thread

Re: FIRST Injuries
I don't have a picture, but i was cutting a piece of 80/20 and it kicked back and split my nail and the end of my finger. Now i know why to use a back board for cutting small things.

Re: FIRST Injuries
I have countless burns from welding. Sometimes, if you're lucky, it just sears off all the nerve endings and you can't really feel the burn. AND you get what i like to call "insta-callus" it melts the skin and makes a real nice callus. AND you can sometimes (if it's a real good burn (meaning almost any idiot should know not to touch there)) you can see the skin on the piece of metal. Then you can say you left a piece of yourself on the robot! Ahhhhh the joys o' welding. But I love it.

Re: FIRST Injuries
In 2002--which, for all you whippersnappers, was when there was a giant stack of storage containers on the top of a large HDPE ramp--I took a flying ninja leap at the stack and brought all 25 crashing down upon me. Got a couple nasty bruises.
I've done more damage to tools than gotten it from them, however. I've broken hammers and more than a few gamepieces. FIRST fears me :) |

Re: FIRST Injuries
It's good that this forum was created because everyone knows that we can't talk about our injuries at competitions - that's when the safety judges are around!
There haven't been major injuries on my team while I've been on it (that I know of). I received a helping of minor cuts from our 2k6 bot whenever I had to load it in a hurry (which was basically before any elimination match) due to some gears and chains that were not placed in an idiot-proof location. I, as the unaware idiot, reaped the consequences. I started wearing gloves to protect myself, but then people started making fun of me. . . |
Re: FIRST Injuries
The only injury 1986 has suffered was to a pair of jeans. A drill decided to attack my friends jeans, so now there is a 6" rip in that pair. Funny thing is, he still wears them on occasion.
