The 2008 St. Louis regional field (listed here) looks very strong. It includes several teams that have long histories of competitive performance, and several past St. Louis winning alliance members. So far eleven US states are represented.

Team 1986 will not be there this year, but we would like to wish everyone good luck, especially rookie teams. St. Louis has a reputation for being an extremely challenging regional, so look out for some stellar veteran teams and rookie teams alike.

Emphasis mine. Challenging = good.

Only four weeks until the 2008 St. Louis Regional! The field of 45 teams now represents twelve states:

16 from Missouri
9 from Michigan
8 from Indiana
3 from Illinois
2 from Alabama
and one each from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. This field spans the country from border to border.

I won't recite them here, but a glance at the list shows several teams with strong records of competitive success and awards at past FRC events.

41 veteran and 4 rookie teams can look forward to a great time, a very high standard of game play, and an even higher standard of gracious professionalism. If you are returning, or if this will be your first time in St. Louis, we're glad you are coming and we want you to have a blast. I'll be the guy with FTA on his back -- please say hello and tell me where you're from. :)

Make that two from Iowa -- the latest list shows that St. Louis regional veterans 525 and 967 are both returning, so the field is up to 46 teams.

A question for the locals. Which hotel is better by the competition area? The Red Roof Inn or Super 8?

I'll be making reservations for 9 rooms tomorrow and could use a heads up.

Thanks

Re: St. Louis Regional (FRC)

When I've driven by and paid attention, the Red Roof has a lot of constuction worker type trucks in the lot. It's within walking distance to a few restaurants if you need that to be close. The area around the Super 8 is mostly under construction, the Burger King mentioned in the Google description has been torn down, the building next to it has been boarded up. The Culpepper's is still there.
I have never stayed at either place though.

Team 1094 looks forward to seeing you all in a few short weeks

I don't know what hotel would suit your team well, but we found the wynngate by wyndham a good hotel with free internet (only one in the area AFAIK) and is right by Dave and Busters so the team can have a fun evening after the competition days. It would be great to have other teams in the same hotel. Any other teams staying in that hotel?

Tomasz Bania

P.S. See you all at the regional!

Thanks Tomasz and others:

Sounds like the experience will not be "disney like" but I expected that with the rates we were quoted. Should the hair on the back of my neck be raised while making these reservations? Having "construction workers" staying at the site sometimes signals worn down accomodations. Should I be concerned?

Tomasz,
Do you happen to have more info on Wynngate? It may be out of our price range but it doesn't hurt to check.

Thanks again everyone!

Terribly sorry about the delay, too caught up in the build to check the chief.

Here is a link to the hotel information:

http://www.wingateinns.com/Wingate/c...e=100000281 0

It is rather expensive at between $70-90 dollars a night but our team has learned you don't want to completely skimp on the hotel.

Sorry if it's too late!
