Rule question

Are there any rules against having a light, strobe, or LED on the robot this year?
I looked through the rulebook, and could not find it, can you help?

Re: Rule question

I would construe a strobe as a distraction to opposing drivers/impediment of their vision and therefore illegal. LED or another type of light would probably be legal, provided that they don't distract other drivers.

Re: Rule question

Under Robot rules
<R02>Items specifically PROHIBITED from use on the ROBOT include:
 Any devices or decorations specifically intended to jam or interfere with the remote sensing
capabilities (including vision systems, acoustic range finders, sonars, infra-red proximity
detectors, etc.) of another robot (i.e. changing ROBOT color to confuse opponent’s vision
system)
And
<R20> Any non-functional decorations included on the ROBOT must not affect the outcome of the
MATCH, and must be in the spirit of “Gracious Professionalism.”

All of the above are and will be under the scrutiny of the inspection team.

Re: Rule question

As long as they don't interfere in any manner, there shouldn't be a problem. Run your decorations through a seperate circuit with it's own toggle switch incase the inspectors say otherwise. They shouldn't make you take them off if their operation proves illegal, they just won't let you run them during the match.

It is not neccessary to add the weight of a toggle switch and wiring. Non-functional decorations that require power must run through a breaker and be powered from the main battery. As such it is a simple matter of removing the breaker that feeds the decorations to prevent them from lighting.
