rule on victors
I am trying to find out if there is a rule that says we need a victor on each CIM motor.

Re: rule on victors
I'm not sure what the rule number is but you NEED a victor per CIM. The CIMs draw too much current to run more then one per Victor / 40A Fuse.

Re: rule on victors
Yes:
<R56> Each power regulating device (Victor speed controller or Spike relay) shall control one and only one electrical load (motor, actuator or compressor). Multiple low-load devices (e.g. pneumatic valves) may be connected to relay modules (but only one motor may be connected to each relay module). Jason |

I understand Rule R56, I've read it and thought I understood it, until my dad came across this in the inspection checklist:

Re: rule on victors
In 2007, the rules were written to allow more than one motor per Victor (2007 rule <R91>). Rule <R56> was added/changed for 2008 to clearly prohibit this.
That was my fault for not catching this earlier in the season. A Q&A response posted today brought this to my attention. As stated by the GDC, Section 8 always overrides the checklist. Regardless, a new checklist will be created with this update. Thanks! Russ Beavis Chief Inspector |
Re: rule on victors
Going back through the rules - 2005 and 2006 explicitly stated only one motor per Victor (<R77> in 2005 and <R86> in 2006) but 2007 was a bit more forgiving with <R91>.
I try to keep up with Section 8... I promise ;) Russ Beavis Chief Inspector |
Re: rule on victors
This thread was extremely informative, I've never thought about this. We usually throw extra "vicS" in just to be save and have an easy way to swap speed controllers in case of emergency

Re: rule on victors
I know this just sounds real dumb, but I thought that a Spike and a relay module are the same. Is this completely wrong, if so what is the relay module and where can I get one, if we need it

Re: rule on victors
Yes, Spikes and relay modules are the same thing. Well, sort of. Spikes are a type of relay module, but they're the only type that you can use on a FIRST-legal robot.

Re: rule on victors
A Spike is the IFI model name for the First legal relay module. They are one and the same.
