fish
 
well i have a fish and its all rigged up.
i could animate it all by hand but i dont want to.
how would i IK it or another wat to animate it efectivley.

For the motion of the fish body would the Wave modifier work?

And for the path you could draw a spline then add a Path Constraint to the fish.

Dude im gonna tell you to you strait. There is no way around it. Animation takes time. If you dont want to do the work, then your not going to get good results.

Hand animating is the best way.

ahhhh. well ill guess ill just hand animate it.
but ive seen other people usre some funky iks and get really easy animation out of it

make a copy of your mesh and slice your new mesh and create bones and IK links out of the slices. Makes it really easy for skinning make a basic rig. If your not going to be too close to it then just experiment around with several animated bend modifiers making use of the limit effects (this works nearly as well as IK's in situations like this and is considerably faster). Watch some swimming fish for ideas.
