Re: To all gearheads
Here is a project i picked up in Oct of 07
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can tell she has a Boss 302 in her. Currently it's out of gas, dead battery, horn is ether broken or disconnected, The trans and back end are geared down so low that i can creep along at 20mph w/o touching the clutch and or gas in 2nd gear. The gas gauge thinks it has a 1/2 tank more of gas then it really does (why it's out of gas). Then to top all of that off before i can fix anything i need to get street tires on it. Drag tires are a no no on the roads of NY state i guess. I mostly fell in love with this car for the exhaust (This is the loudest car i have ever heard thanks to flowmaster and no cats on the pipes) and I loved the price of 2.5k |

Re: To all gearheads
I'll post a picture of the engine I put in my truck when I was still in high school...not too sophisticated, but in 1979 a 15 second (in the quarter mile) pickup truck was quicker than any new car you could buy!

We use to have a Pro Mud Racer. We sold it a couple years ago but here is a picture of it.
It had a 496 Chevrolet. It was alcohol injected with nitrous. http://www.mudmissile.com/vt2004_class_vi_01.jpg |

Oh boy.. where do I start?
Currently at my house we have... a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland. (not mine) a 1950 Mercury Coupe (not mine) a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback (Shelby Clone) (also not mine) & at a remote location which I actually have to work on and try to move this weekend I have: a 1979 Plymouth Trailduster with a 360, Fulltime 4WD, and a completely removable top. (that one's mine & can be found HERE & HERE) I'll post some pics of the others later on. |

yea one of the Subaru Clubs(CT subaru Crew) I belong to was going to enter an old subaru into the 24 hours of lemons...turns out $500 subies are hard to come by...
But heres my car...purchased with intent to mod, but im a broke college student and the type of racing i've gotten into(Rally-X) isn't too friendly to my car's health, Heres a few pics of the last rally-X i was at and the aftermath and a pic of messing around in the snow its a 1996 Subaru Impreza L Wagon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I get my subie DIRTY :D It's awesome to see so many RX-7's on here!!! I LOVE those cars! Also good see such a variety of interest (import to american muscle to 24 hours of lemons to mudracing yada yada yada) |

Ahhhh!!! :ahh:
All these cool race type events that people in CT are involved in! The only thing I've ever done is indoor Karting, and outdoor AutoX type events (with a full size electric car mind you.. ) Anywho, where are these races held that are in the pics? |

dude i live for robotics and cars. I'm only 16 but i get my license on April 1,2008 i can not wait to finally drive my camaroZ28 , ive rebuilt that engine with my dad.
The First one is a 1986 Camaro Z28 w/ 305 four-barrel carburetor, it needs some TLC, such as new audio components, front suspension, and i want to throw some goods on it too such as a new carb and intake manifold(not sure what size), posi with disk brakes. The second one,the red one, is my dad's 1984 Firebird Trans Am, same engine as the camaro except the car only has 49,000 original miles. Manual tranny and thats about it. My aunt said if i want i can restore her her 1971 Dodge Challenger. It doesn't have a Hemi, but im easy to please. Ill post pics if i ever get them:D I love F-bodies... thats all i can say, even though my dad's daily driver is 2003 Mustang with a V6 |

Re: To all gearheads
A ton of guys at my school drive Camaros, but my family is all about the blue oval. Not bashing GM or Dodge, but I think that the Mustangs ability to of been introduced in 1964 and then still in 2008 being sold, ever being discontinued. Even thought the gas shortages in the 1970s. But they are still being made even today over 40 years down the road. I'm not saying all Mustangs are great cause there where some really bad Mustangs out there.

but personally i could never own a muscle car they just cant handle like a lot of European cars, or select import cars |
Re: To all gearheads
I've only done bodywork (on a family friend's car after they hit something at low speed, just needed to replace the bumper and fender, no biggie), but I'll be getting my own car soon and I will probably work on that.
For any curious, it's a 2004 Ford Escape, white/grey (this is not it but it's the same car) http://www.danitrue.com/images/escape.jpg Mine's got the V6 instead of the I4, but it's the entry model V6 so no foglights, leather, etc. It's just all truck. EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention that I've debadged it and taken off the pinstripes, too. I wasn't fond of them, so they came off. Front badge is still on, though. I might replace the grille with an aftermarket metal one if I can find one that doesn't annoy me (which is most of them =p) EDIT Again: I'm also more fond of the "Pacific muscle" and European cars, stuff like Audis, Nissans, etc. I was going to get a Porsche 914 until my sister got in a car accident (914 has no airbags or crumple zones). I'm thinking that when I have enough money I'll look into trading the Escape + some dosh in for a '03 Audi A4. |

I like handling. But if I didn't, I totally would. Nobody would see it coming. The small SUV of death. Mwhahaha. The Escape handles decently for it's automobile class and size. takes 45mph turns at ~60 (or it can at least). =p |

Re: To all gearheads
Here’s my rig, I’m obsessed with it, it’s a 4.7L dodge Dakota 2wd, 12bolt 9.25rear, auto 45rfe
It used to be fast back when it was on the 29’s. Stock (with spare tire all the crap on it, box with subs, my friend and I, and ¾ tank of gas at around 100degrees out) it ran a decent 10.56@67.1 1/8 and 16.32@82.3 1/4 at firebird. Before I lifted it, I put a cutout (behind cats) and the shift kit in and I could chirp 1-2 shift all day and burn rubber at speed and it was a blast to drive. I never got to run it at the track like this I would have expected it to break into the 15’s. Recently, I realized it is a truck and I use it as one so instead of making it into a street truck, I made it off-road to explore all the goodies Arizona has to offer. I’ve installed a shift kit, locker, exhaust cutout, train horn, and a suspension lift (upper control arms, balljoints, springs shackles, yada yada yada….) And I tucked some 265/75/16 bfg mud terrains in there I like the skinny tire offroad look inspired by unimogs and pinzgauers. I plan to put some skid plates on after the season is over and in the future install and mpi LPG bi fuel conversion in the future...... Well here are some pics of my baby ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Re: To all gearheads
haha, nice,
it always makes me angry to see a pickup truck lowered. I realize it does take alot of work, but still. It's defeating the purpose of owning a truck. now lifting it on the other hand  +:D =devilish grin |

My subie is a daily driver! Thats how club racing got started. People would bring there cars (and their families) and when they got there, they might swap tires if they could afford it, and they'd run the car (for better or for worse) and hopefully drive home in it the next day! |
Re: To all gearheads
I have a 1959 Chevy Fleetside pickup (almost just like squirrel's!), but so far it's still slow. It has the 235 straight six (the torque is enough to make you shiver on a cold winter day!) and a Saginaw 4-speed (essentially a 3 speed with a "work" gear). I hape to get enough maney somewhere to put a big block in it, and if not that then a high performance 292.

FOR FORD CONTOUR -Full cat-back for all Contour apps. -First true CAI for the Contour Zetec -Optimized* Zetec Contour intake -Front strut tower bar for all Contour apps. -Rear strut tower bar for all Contour apps. -TIG-welded aluminum intake manifold** -Heat shield for cone-filter intake on Duratec Contour. FOR FORD FOCUS -Front strut tower bar for 2000-2007 -Rear strut tower bar for 2000-2007 SEDAN -Optimized* intake for Zetec *Uses a basic kit to optimize the performance of the stock pieces. Comparable to "SleeperZ" intake **ELIMINATES EXTERNAL PLENUM, available for stock or 60-65mm throttle body None have been produced, as I am still in the very early developmental stages... Also check out www.contour.org and click on forums to the left. The thread is in the "Group Buy" section. I am open to extending the parts list if I can get some retrofitting time with your car. I am in southeast Connecticut. The external plenum bit is about the 2.0 Liter Zetec motor's need for an external plenum on the intake manifold. My design will eliminate that need, and will flow air straight to the intake runners. All kits will include necessary hardware, brackets, and gaskets. Shameless plug...// END:D |

Re: To all gearheads
Well, I'm a split-decision gearhead. I like muscle cars... and muscle trucks. Currently I've got a 1972 Chevy Blazer, 33" tires, 4 inch lift, 373 gears, 4 barrel holly carb on a small block 350, aluminum manifold, 3-speed tranny with a shift kit (nothin like barking 33inch tires shifting from 1-2) fresh metallic blue paint (absolutely gorgeous if i do say so myself), original motor (rebuilt once) and the odometer has been rolled over twice, about to roll it over again. The thing runs like a top, just won't die. It's a tank, and the biggest convertible around! Nothin like the drive in movies in that truck in the summer!
I've also got two 1973 firebirds I'm restoring, one is the basic low end model, the other is a formula model that is my mom's old highschool car, she's the 2nd owner. Now that I've got an '03 dodge dakota to get me around school and such with better gas mileage, the plan is to get that blazer where I can roast all four woot! haha. well, that's the dream anyways. Don't have the $$ yet to start on that part of the project yet. Here's some pics of the Blazer, aka "The Beast" http://www.flickr.com/photos/23275107@N02/2226758241/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/23275107@N02/2227549064/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/23275107@N02/2227548944/ ~tim~ |

Muncie transmissions are known for more than just their high performance stuff. The SM420 is a top loaded, top shifting truck style transmission. It enjoys the lowest compound gear of all the common truck transmissions at 7.05:1 and as such it is a popular choice for those wanting a very low crawling gear. |
Re: To all gearheads
Yeah, top speed in 1st gear with that tranny is about 10 - 15 mph (that's with a 235 at 4,000 rpm, which can make one very uncomfortable.) I need to get Mr. Forbes to go find that 3 speed overdrive he's been talking about...
btw, got more pics of the car in your avatar, Brian? |
Re: To all gearheads

Thanks Brian! |
Re: To all gearheads
Anytime guys, more than happy to help. I hope there were enough valves in the box
I don't have any more pics of the car in the avatar. It actually belongs to a very good friend of mine. It makes a nice avatar. My car is a '47 Ford sedan with a flattie, with duals carbs, headers and sidepipes. Good luck with that truck, it looks like it's in great shape. I always did like the look of the front grills on those. |

Well......there was this one time.......
Lol, I got a Volvo 850 (awesome car) that "all it had wrong was a blown head gasket and broken radiator fan." Okay, easy fixes, I thought. I pulled the head to replace it....it was pretty bad. ![]() that's completely rusted and the cylinders had radiator fluid in them. So, instead of getting a new motor, I sold it for a few dollars and got a working car :P |

It probably was worth fixing right after the head gasket blew, but letting it sit and rust for a long time ruined it.

Re: To all gearheads
You can buy a complete rebuilt engine for less than you can build one yourself. If the rest of the car is in good condition, you can usually slap a cheap rebuild in for $500-$1k.
Now, if you want something with a little to more umph, get ready to slap down some real dough. Whenever some one asks me to build an engine for them, the first thing I say is, "Speed is expensive; how fast do you want to go?" Right now with the gas prices and trying to find good gas, I'm prefer building Alky engines. It may be hard to find alcohol at the pump but it's about the same price as gas if you buy it by the drum and less than racing gas. It is a lot easier to make more ponies with too. |
Re: To all gearheads
My mustang is half drag, but all i want right now is a flashy street car. One i can show off in, but not a wimpy little 4 cylinder ie Civic, Focus, or Neon. SO I'm thinking about doing that to my Mustang, only because a lot of people bust on my 86 saying that was a crappy year.
