PSP Driven Robot
Team 2344 has been considering alternate forms of controlling our robot, and we finally got around to programming the robot to be controlled in hybrid mode with a Sony Playstation Portable. The PSP emulates a generic remote control (I won't say which brand though, no way I'm letting you guys steal our robot), and theese controls are mapped to the up, down left, and right buttons on the D-Pad.
Before you get on our case, its under the $400 limit, and I don't think there's a rule saying we can't. But if anyone can point out a flaw in our plan, it'd be greatly appreciated. Maybe we'll have vids later. |

Re: PSP Driven Robot
In the past, I've used my Pocket PC handheld as a universal remote. One hitch I've came across is that it had a very small range. I'm sure you'll do this but just make sure your IR transmitter has enough power to transmit to your robot across the field. The range on portable devices with IRs (palm, pda, psp, etc) is considerably lower than the range on a standard remote. Besides 'style' I see no reason to use a PSP in place of a standard universal remote that will probably get a longer range anyway. That's what they are made to do anyway right. ;) There's no rule against it, though, so go for it. :P
