Yes, You can use them but I don't know where to get them... We're using one joystick since you pretty much get the same values and It's easier since they gave us 2 right handed joysticks.

They CH Flightsticks. You cant buy them new anymore, but they can sometimes be found on ebay. CH does make new flightsticks, but different model. They are legal to use for the robot as they were previous KoP items.

If the new joysticks are giving you trouble from how it handles, people have switched out the springs and it seems to work.

Hi, I have looked into their website. It seems that the connection of the Joystick is USB not the one we use as a DB connnecter.

Is it possible that anyone lend us one if they have a spare?

A little off topic, but, if you hold the white joysticks down near their base they're fantastic if you're a light touch driver.

but the problem is since this year there is fast transmissions, The problem with white is it does not turn properly and plus its touch senstive, even witha light touch, the robots runs very fast.

PS:Is there someone who might not be using theirs would lend it to us?

They are a pretty coveted item. I am not sure how many teams have ones that they are not using. Why dont you try to write some code so that they are less sensitive around the starting point.

I've drooled over the black sticks ever since i saw another team use them last year. besides the appropriate amount of sensitivity, they were ambidextrous. This made them perfect for tank driving. Two right-handed sticks are just plain awkward. You can go out and get Saitek sticks that are ambidextrous, but they are USB and you need to plunk down the cash for the chicklet. Maybe they can fix this with the new Controller i've heard about.

The CH Flightsticks were included in the KOP until 2004 when they changed over to the new (yuck) white things due to the new model CH Flightsticks being USB. The old ones seem to have a nice feel to them. I have found that they come up on ebay once in a while and from what I have heard, they are relatively easy to repair.

The black ones were actually only in the kits for about 3 years, before that they were grey.

Also remember that certain "touchy" controls can be resolved through the control software.

Just out of curiosity ... since the flightsticks cannot be purchaced through a retailer, they shouldn't be COTS. So why are they legal?

they are unmodified previous KoP items.

Re: Joysticks.Plz reply ASAP

There do not appear to be any rules in section 8.3.10 that restricts OI controllers to COTS items.

Re: Joysticks.Plz reply ASAP

If I recall the joysticks can be ANY control item (joystick) not over the max price. In previous years I have purchases joysticks from computer stores or shows with the DB15 connector. Most any joystick with a 15 pin game port connector (DB15) will work. Some times you may need to rewire the controllers.

our team bought one of the fighter joy sticks...its kind of like the old flight sticks but it is a lot bigger with a lot more buttons.... i dont know if this will help.

Re: Joysticks.Plz reply ASAP

For the new joysticks from CH I would tend to believe they are USB, meaning that you would need the USB adaptor(pretty expensive for some teams)

Re: Joysticks.Plz reply ASAP

If you don't like the white ones and lack flightsticks, try unscrewing and removing the white one's handle and just use the little black stem it is connected to. You don't have to cut anything and can easily reassemble the stick if you decide you don't like the feel. If you actually decide to use a handleless joystick, I would (and did) cut the wires and replace the handle with something touch longer (like a short piece PVC pipe) with some kind of grippy material attached to it. You can put in different springs, but I would try just switching out the handle first.

I'm not sure whether anyone has tried this or not, but I wonder if one could order a set of the new CH-Products USB joysticks and gut out the USB cable and circuit boards. On the spare parts page of the CH website, they have potentiometers which look strikingly similar to the ones in the older 15pin joysticks. I haven't seen the [inside of the] USB sticks, but it seems possible that one could wire up the pots' and buttons in a new USB 'stick to a 15pin cable and get a working 15pin 'stick that way?

The only such device permitted on the OI joystick ports is the Chicklet. The manual is very clear on this.

(I don't think you'll find any other such devices available anyway.)

Some one suggested programming the joysticks to be less sensitive.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet but multiple people liked this code.
