How do you make Galleries for Photos

What do you recommend to create galleries/photo albums for a web page? Please also list what requirements you must have to run these programs.

Thanks.

Re: Gallaries/Photos

well i have found 2 good ones. Gallery2 and Coppermine

Gallery2:
Website: http://gallery.menalto.com/
Download: http://codex.gallery2.org/Downloads
Requirements:
  • Platform - UNIX (BSD, Linux, ...) or Windows
  • Webserver - Apache, Microsoft IIS, Zeus, ...
  • PHP - PHP version 4.3.0 or greater (Gallery 1.x requires PHP 4.1.0 or greater), PHP safe_mode must be turned off
  • Image Processing Library - In order to automatically generate thumbnails and resized versions of your photos, Gallery requires either ImageMagick or NetPBM. Gallery 2 additionally supports GD and GraphicsMagick
  • Database (Gallery 2 only) - MySQL 3.x, 4.x or 5.x, PostgreSQL 7.x or 8.x, Oracle 9i or 10g, DB2 8.2, MS SQL Server 2005 (Gallery 1.x does NOT require a database)
Coppermine:
Website: http://coppermine-gallery.net/
Download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=89658
Requirements:
  • Good webserver (Apache recommended)
  • PHP (4.1.0 or better)
  • MySQL (3.23.23 or better; 4.x recommended)
  • either GD or ImageMagick (any version)
hope that helps

Team 1675 uses coppermine on your sever, i haven't have a problem with it,yet. Its easy is to upload photos and make albums. We use they bridging software with phpbb , so all the team member have to do, is login and upload picture.

Go with coppermine.

Re: Gallaries/Photos

I've tried SimpleViewer , Gallery2, Gallery1 and a few custom utilities for image displays. I would have to say Gallery2 is great for quick turn around. However Gallery2 can be tricky to integrate into a website.

Lone Star Regional http://txfirst.org
and 2587 Afrobots http://afrobots.org

Both have Gallery2, there are a wide variety of themes you can choose to make the image layout work for your site.

Re: Gallaries/Photos

We use Gallery2 on our site (www.stuypulse.com/gallery). I'd have to say that it's really very powerful and there's tons of plugins for it. In addition, we have it integrated with SMF (although the bridge is quite finicky/buggy). There's probably integration for other user systems as well.

One of the things I like most about it is its mass "facebook-style" photo uploader. However, skinning seems like somewhat of a pain, although its not that bad.

This has been asked before

I would recommend jalbum. IMO this is the best free software that is available. Its a little quirky though, because it was written in java.

Re: Gallaries/Photos

i use a photo gallery script i found on DYNAMICDRIVE,

it works great, and uses PHP to automatically add pictures to the page (all you have to do is config some javascript, then upload pics and the included php file... it works great, and no editing of the page is needed...

there's alot more info on DD's site:

"dynamic drive photo album script

i love this script because i can't install much on my server (godaddy basic) since i can't get to the admin console.

this script works great, check out our galleries

the cad, 2007 build season, and 2008 build season all use this script

hope this helps!
