I've seen this before, it's really cool though. If all you had was the audio, you might think he was talking about FIRST. In a way he is.

I got to talk with Mr. Flowers briefly last year. I told him that I had wanted to be part of FIRST since about 1980. :) That's when I saw something on television about the 2.70 course, with its kit of parts, design/build time, and competition.

It was nearly a quarter-century later when my son entered high school and I joined the TechnoKats as a mentor.

I have been lucky enough to be involved in 2.007 (formerly 2.70) as both a student in 2006 and as part of Prof. Slocum's lab group organizing the class since then. It is a great experience and as a FIRST alumnus it has been even more special to see some of the overlapping history and philosophy of both contests, which is why I really love this video.

This year's final contest takes place on May 7th and 8th, usually starting around 7PM on both days. It is open to the public, so anyone who might happen to be in the Cambridge, MA area is more than welcome to stop by. Details will be posted on the course home page linked in the original post, or you can email me: scolton@mit.edu.
