HAHA! Yes no PVC...well very little that is. Less than 1 foot total would be my guess. But I am also as suprised as you we didn't use that much this year. Initially our arm was going to be made of PVC but we decided on 1" box tube that we keyed ourselves for the arm.

Well the arm is powered by a Taigene motor which will lift our roller claw, which uses a FP on an XRP gearbox to pull in and spit out the ball. The arm has about a 7' reach so we can easily clear the overpass.

Galactus looks very cool and should be interesting to see in action... but I have to ask, why use that name if it's not going to be purple?

Very nice. Love the smooth motion of grab and release.

Terrific bot.

See you in Philly!

We start out every year with a name conversation for the robot in about week 4 or so. Names need to relate to the team, our mascot, the game, the machine's appearance or a combination thereof. Our team colors match the school colors and will always remain the same.

After a lot of discussion on other names, we arrived at the name "Atlas" because of the big ball. However, we were sure that many others may be thinking the same thing. So, then we searched lots of mythological names to no avail. Finally, one of our seniors started thinking about Marvel characters. Galactus popped into his head and we looked it up and found...

"Devourer of Worlds" (grabbing the big ball)
"sole survivor of the Big Crunch of the universe" (we liked the symbol of strength)
called the "third force of the universe." (this is our third year/third FRC robot)

So in a symbolic sense, the name fit really well, but our team colors don't change.
