Gyro instead of GTS

Hi, Our team is going to try to manage our rate of turn using the gyro. We are concerned that the max turning rate for the gyro is 80deg and that this will limit our turning rate. Has anyone had a problem with the turning rate of the gyro in the 2008 kit? We didnt participate in the 2007 competition, but would it be legal to use the 150deg/s gyro? Does anyone know if the 300deg/sec gyro will work well with Kevin's Code?

Thanks
Windell

The 80deg/sec will most certainly be a problem. If you try to turn too quickly, it will forget where 0 is, and then the purpose of the sensor is defeated.

Does anyone know if the 150 deg/sec gyro from analog devices could be a dropin replacement to the 80deg/s one. If so I'll just desolder the one on the board and put the new one on.

thanks.

I suggest you just get the "ADXRS150EB" from your favorite electronics vendor online (Mouser, DigiKey, Jameco...). You'll just need to do a little bit of wiring and get a project enclosure from radio shack. It should function exaclty the same.

We tried the 80 d/s but also found it to be far too sensitive for use in the competition environment. We're currently using the 150d/s chip with great success. Amazingly, it's still sensitive enough to detect fine movements.
