CMU Camera Mount

Are we allowed to reuse the pan/tilt servo mounts that came in last year's KOP this year?

Quote:

<R36> COTS ITEMS from ROBOTS entered in previous FIRST competitions or COTS MECHANISMS that are no longer commercially available may be used under the following conditions:
* The item must be unmodified, and still in its original condition as delivered from the VENDOR
* The item must not be a part custom made for the FIRST competition and provided in the Kit Of Parts for a previous FIRST Robotics Competition (e.g. 2006 FRC transmissions, custom-made motor couplers, custom sensor strips, 2006 IFI CMUcam II modules, etc. are not permitted)
* The item must satisfy ALL of the rules associated with materials/parts use for the 2008 FIRST Robotics Competition)
R36 seems to suggest that it would be illegal, because it's a "part custom made for the FIRST competition," but IFI is selling them, so they're COTS.

Explanation?

Re: CMU Camera Mount

It appears to me that the prohibition applies to "COTS MECHANISMS that are no longer commercially available". The item in question apparently is still commercially available from IFI, isn't it? so the rule would not prohibit using it, assuming all the other requirements are met.

Re: CMU Camera Mount

Yes, but we used it on last years robot, which seems to mean it doesn't meet the requirements. It just seemed kind of pointless to go spend $40 on something that is identical to what we already have.

The mechanism was also in the 2006 KOP, do you have that?
