To all league members:
Eric and I are trying to finish up all of the scoring ASAP.
I would do the draft this weekend but I am going to be on the road to Atlantam so it may have to be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Everyone can send me in their lists now, at least.

Ed's right about that. It's looking like Barry Bonzack will be in the lead and thus have first pick, but others are catching up (Alex Cormier, hill, and myself are the ones I can think of off-hand). I've also run up against a lot of no-shows and uncaught double picks, so bear with me. I'll get most of the people out ASAP, then go deal with doubles for whoever's left--after I deal with the mess that is Week 2's regionals. (Half the league has a question mark for their score right now.) If anyone wants to help, drop me an email.

Oh, and Ed--I could really use Florida and Wisconsin right about now.

Re: [FF]: 2008 Seaon Long Fantasy FIRST Discussion

I was looking over the scores for what I've already done (now that they're cleaned up a bit--VCU was particularly nasty on the double picks) and adding in the Week 3 scores that I've done up till now.

Barry should start getting nervous--he's only leading by about 300 points, with at least 4 others hot on his tail. Then again, there's still the rest of Week 3 and all the rest for him to pull away again...

All pool trades have been added; some missing teams/double picks will still be found, but I think I've got most of them for now.

All I'll say for now is, I'll need to work hard for the next few days on this... I can get most of Week 3 and almost all of Week 4 done at this point with what I have.

Don't you worry, hill. As of mid-Week 3, I seem to remember you were one of the ones pressuring Barry. I'll probably join you guys by the end of Week 3--I'm currently leading the week.

Re: [FF]: 2008 Seaon Long Fantasy FIRST Discussion

Well, I'm almost done with Week 3. (One regional left, plus cleanup in three.) At this rate, I'm doubtful of my ability to finish single-handed by, say, Monday. I figure it'll take me about 23 hours to finish, plus another 2-3 hours to clean up the sheet on top of that.

Ways to help if you want to:
  • Clean out used teams from the randomized lists for the regionals, one per tier per regional. This makes it easier to substitute teams in for missing/double-picked teams. Probably about 15 minutes per randomized list.
  • Score a regional or two. Anything in Week 4 and beyond (and Brazil) is fair game; just let me know which one. (And send the results over for adding to the totals.:)) I find that one regional can take about an hour, not counting missing/double-picked team cleanup.
  • "Clean up" a regional or tier. I send you a finished regional, you go through the randomizer and put the first unclaimed team in "empty" slots.
There's a lot more double picks out there than you might think--but they seem to be dying down in favor of "missing" teams.

A note on ranking----Barry shouldn't get too confident just yet. In Week 3, with 1 regional left to score, he's running in second and 3 people are either ahead of him or in easy striking distance. That's not going to hurt him too badly overall--but there are strong competitors out there. One or two lousy regionals (and he's had two already--which is why the others are so close) could drop him into second.

After Week 2, the top 5 were:
Barry 603
Luke 513
Tottanka 425
GeeForce 396
hill 395

hill--I'll PM you with a short list. The pick sheet I posted a few weeks ago is what I'm using.

These are the top 15. The rest to follow when the full score set is ready...

Barry, let me know when you've got time and I'll get you the needed info.

UPDATE: I'm now about halfway through Week 4. This is a high-scoring week, with at least three people picking up over 200 points in one draft. I have five confirmed as having more than 500 points for the week, and there are still four regionals left to score. Stay tuned--I should have the standings post-Week 4 up sometime soon.

So far, I have about 5 to go. You up for NYC?

And yes, you are weakening. You missed two top picks that were free agents. (1625 and 39, to be exact.) Three or four people are currently beating you in the Week 5 scoring. Then again, I wouldn't exactly call 690 points with 4 regionals left in Week 5 weak...except that three people have over 900 and another has over 700.

Then again, Week 5 was/is a bloodbath, particularly GTR, which has the most abnormally low scores I've seen yet. Those who survive will do well. Those who don't... Well, we'll see later today when the final standings are released. There have been some changes to draft lists due to missing teams (and Barry wasn't immune). We shall see...

That makes some sense now. For the first couple of weeks I double checked my next regionals to make sure my picks were still at the regional... the last 3 weeks I was at regionals and mostly out of state and didn't have time.

EricH 13-04-2008 20:07

Re: [FF]: 2008 Seaon Long Fantasy FIRST Discussion

After finishing Week 5, it looks like Barry is too far ahead to be caught. THe battle for second pick rages on, though, with three who are close enough to grab it if they have a good day at NYC.

Week 5 standings will not be posted, as there is only one event left. It is enough that three people had over 1000 points. (Barry was the last of those with 1194. I'll let you judge how good the other two are. I think the main reason Barry is in the lead is that those two had bad first-and-second week scores by comparison.)

Eric, what can I do for you?

At this point, I'm just about done. Though a list of the unpicked teams in randomizer order for Tier 1, NYC would be nice to have--I know I'll need at least one due to a double pick. (And at the rate teams haven't been showing up, more is better.){EDIT} Better make that for each tier...some teams didn't show up.)

I can't go against the defending world champions - 987, the High Rollers for me.

I'll make a championship draft thread.

Looks great Eric! Thanks everyone for doing this, it was a lot of fun.

Can i request that we show what tier the person was mainly in?
I think i was the top for tier 1 which was the hardest tier there too. :)

The full sheet is in CD-Media. It has: Teams, tiers, scores by regional, scores by week, and grand total scores. The one thing it doesn't have is individual team scores. (And those are available in this thread from Ed's sheets.)

You were in Tier 1 all the time, but that wasn't the toughest. That would go to 2 or 3 when either Barry and hill or Barry and I were both in it.:yikes:

Thanks for doing the scores for each regional and then for each week. You guys rock for taking the time to do this for everyone.

Fun. But I hope Brandon finishes the FF area before next season!

(If he doesn't, I'm thinking start as soon as regionals are announced with scoring/who has which teams/etc. stuff, rather than wait until Week 5. Make life much easier on everyone.)

It was fun but I need to come up with a system so I don't have so many absentee owners. I think 75% of the people in the league simply signed up and were never heard from again.

Yeah. I could tell kind of who they were by how well they did. Maybe: sign up. Confirm participation (thread or PM) shortly before closing the league to sign ups. (This would also be the drop deadline.)

I saw maybe up to 10 active members this year. That would be about one tier for anything other than Brazil and Israel.

I'm thinking ahead to next year. We'll see how my schedule goes...

Great Job Eric and Koko Ed for running this

A few suggestions for next year:

-If we still have the tiers, make them fully randomized. I imagine that some people were stuck in more "competitive" tiers, with a higher percentage of participants actually making picks.

-We need some kind of reminder that a draft is happening, beyond posts to the FF forum. Something like a counter on the CD portal, saying "2 weeks until Week 1 Drafts start"

-If we get a new, automated system, make it integrated with TBA. It would be really helpful if we could easily link team lists to records, videos, etc, from previous years.

Agreed on the signup, then confirm, idea.

True on the tiers. I often got good picks because I was the only one picking. Might be interesting to try a mass randomization. Though if the "drop rate" is consistent, there won't be a need for tiers.

Reminders... I don't know.

Automated system, you'll need to talk to Brandon for anything connected to that. I would like to see automatic scoring for that. (I'll let you figure out why.;))
