Re: 1927's 2008 Robot
It is in <R08>. There are many additional Q&A about it, however:
<R08> STANDARD BUMPERS must use 3/4 inch plywood backing 5 inches tall as the bumper structure to attach the bumper (“pool noodles”) to the ROBOT. The bumpers pictured are not "5 inches tall" on the ends as required by <R08> and would not be allowed. |
Re: 1927's 2008 Robot
many of the Q&A you are showing me though, is if the noodles are cut at an angle and extend out past the wood, which is not what ours is doing. illegal or not, we will do what is necessary.
*EDIT- it seems a robot i saw unveiled today was using half-noodles, or that is what it appeared... |

IF the area with BOTH noodles is 2/3 of the perimeter or more, you are safe. If it is NOT, then you have illegal bumpers because of these Q&As. |
Re: 1927's 2008 Robot
im pretty sure we are legal, but that second one could be a breaking point. we used 2 noodles in all for each bumper, we just gave it some dimension by trimming only the bottom side.
i really hope im right...lol |

I hope that your design wasn't built around having the bumpers the way they are. |
Re: 1927's 2008 Robot
i was just thinking about that. we did those in a day.
and no way, our robot was definitely not based on that bumper design. it was definitely made so that we could change things as needed. is the rule <R08> same as last year? |

Re: 1927's 2008 Robot
the backing was off at the momment for working on the electronics board and has been put on since... as for the bumpers it will be something that we have to address at competition... the pool noodels are doubled but we have cut them a bit... the robot is only 112 lbs.
