RC +5V Pin Voltage

Has anyone actually measured the +5V pins on their RC under normal operating conditions? I was curious and measured ours and both our 2007 and 2008 RC output 6.9V on these pins under no load. I thought the RC had an onboard 5V regulator which should mean these pins are at 5V, not 6.9. If the output from these pins is not actually regulated, then this would make more sense.

Re: RC +5V Pin Voltage

The positive voltage on the PWM outputs is connected to the backup battery not to the internal 5 volts supply. The voltage pin on digital and analog inputs is connected to the internal 5 volt supply.

Al is correct. Are you sure you measured the pins claiming to be 5V and not the ones claiming 7.2V?

No, I measured the +5V pins in the analog and digital banks. I am aware that the PWM pins are connected to the backup battery.

the gnd to Positive (black and red lines) should be 5v +- .25v. Ours is usually within that range.

As a side note, on our bot the gnd and 5V was shorted without harming the RC, but of course things did not work.

Thanks for the info. I'm concerned we either have a bad regulator our the gear tooth sensor lines are shorting and sending 12V into the 5V lines.

AHHHH! Remove the GTS and check the voltage again. I am betting a wiring error on the GTS swapping the 12 volt and 5 volt supply lines. Breaker should have been tripping.
