Desperate need of help

Hello everyone, our team is in some desperate need of help, as previously stated. I'm not sure what happened, but we didn't get our new MPLab from Micro, so we're running into a big snag in the completion of our robot. Our team has just been running off of default code, due to the lack of a programmer (Quit earlier in the year). Does anyone have any suggestions on acquiring a copy of the MPLab or a complier so that one can program the robot?

these are all "free" I hope this helps. I don't have much to do with programming as I left that to my students.

Easy C Trial: http://www.intelitekdownloads.com/easyCPRO/

Highly suggest EasyC at this point if you are new at programming. . . MPLab might just confuse you more this late at night

Thanks for the timely response, I'll try it out. I'm not even a programmer, but I have got to do all I can for my team. While, I test this out, anyone else know of any other programs?

Actually, I know Java, and they're really simmillar. I've already got a code, that was put together that might work, so I was in need of a compiler for it. I don't like EasyC to much, I really haven't been able to figure out the needed input for varibles after you drag and drop them.

Just to put my 2 cents in, all you really need is mplab and possibly labview for testing. Labvew is included with the kit of parts, and since you already know Java, just imagine C as Java w/o access levels, classes, and all that object oriented stuff... and has pointers. Java was made so that C/C++ programmers could pick up on it easily, so it works both ways.

MPLab as well as the C18 Compiler (Student Edition) are available for free from Microchip. Those two together, with Kevin's Framework, and the fix-it windows should be enough to program your robot.

Do you think you can give me a link to that please? I can't seem to find it on their webpage. Thanks in advance.

Definitely watch your variable types, though. I'm a Java programmer, and the most confusing thing about C for me was when I found out that you need to cast unsigned variables to signed types before making them negative. I could never figure out why the computer would do these crazy things until I added a printf and found that the variables were wrapping around to the highest value.
