Re: pic: 1771 finished
Um, wow! That is a very impressive suction device, with a pneumatic kicker to boot! Of the one design I didn't think had a chance of working, you guys pulled it off amazingly. Congratulations on a fantastic design. Hopefully I (and the rest of the world) will get a chance to see your robot in Atlanta!

Re: pic: 1771 finished
What does it do?
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
you totally stole our idea. although our's looks better:yikes:

If you watch the video we almost kicked the ball over the opposing team's operator station :P. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Thanks everyone. Yes we do in fact suck and shoot balls with the funnel. We hold the balls with 350lbs of force and we can easily clear the overpass while shooting. Also once we program the pickup point we can acquire the ball instantaneously just by touching it.
Im very proud of everyone that worked on this and hopefully we will get a chanc ot show everyone at atlanta. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
This is probably one of the most impressive robots I've seen posted. I was a sceptic until I saw the video.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
I think a lot of people didn't believe that a vacuum could work so well but we have a new mentor this year who is a pneumatics engineer who led the team in this pursuit. Without him this idea wouldn't have been possible. It definitely took some trial and error though.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
:ahh:
Wow! That's beautiful! That robot is elegant in form and function! I would be suprised if you didn't get an engineering award for that! How many hurdles can you get in a given match? Do you find it hard to get the ball into the sucker? Seriously, hats off to you guys! |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Are those the BB motors, or the FP's in your vaccuum generator?
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
That's amazing!
& the song completely fits the video & the effects. Nice job:yikes: |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
We are using 2 fisher price motors in the vacuum. Also when the arm is lined up right which it will be as soon as we program the pot, acquiring the ball is instantaneous. The amount of suction we have is a bit ridiculous
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
me like:) dont you think you should worry if the ball shoots over the oposing teams side:confused:
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Haha thats kinda funny that you mention that. In the video you can kinda see where the ball almost bounced over and someone had to knock it back in. I think if we shoot at full speed and at the perfect angle we could potentially clear the driver station but thats not really our goal although it would look super cool.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
that's got to be a safety hazard....
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Freaking amazing!
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
That looks so nice, and works well to boot! Did you use the KOP compressor for that?
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Wow.
Can you place the ball at the end? It looks like you will be very successful this year. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Thanks for the compliments. We can place at the end actually fairly easily.
Unfortunately we already had our regional and we didn't come away victorious. There was a somewhat questionable play on us that eliminated us from the semifinals. In the elimination matches we averaged 5 hurdles per match. Unless there is some miracle we will not be attending any other regionals or the championships unfortunately. We did win an award for our design and it was the hit of the regional. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
regardless i was impressed by how it works. I'm pretty sure their design was one of the finalist for the creativity award...
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Awesome robot guys! It was great to see it in action last weekend, and I really enjoyed seeing how far your team has come in the last 3 years. Congratulations on a good showing at Peachtree.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
I was skeptical until I saw your machine work at Peachtree. Excellent work and Excellent design. Congrats
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Thanks everyone. Yes we did win the Delphi driving technology award for our design. I am extremely impressed with the team this year and the strides we have made. This is my first year mentoring and I feel that there are going to be many more successful years out of this team.

Re: pic: 1771 finished
The vac is really sweet, did you use a single or two stage? and where did you get the impeller assembly? In the aim high game we built two assemblies, one that used two FP motors and one that used a Cim, we had to juggle the gearing to keep the current draw below what the breakers would hold for a match. As I recall it was about 50 amps. We got more vacume with the single cim, but it tended to take the breaker sooner. We got two stage impellers from a surplus place for not very much money. We also shot for about 25 to 30 K RPM at the impeller. Sorry you are done for the season.

Re: pic: 1771 finished
We used a shop vac assembly and modified it to work with 2 fisher price motors. It did drain the battery fairly quickly but we never had any problems tripping a breaker. At competition we were holding the ball with over 400lbs of force and we could acquire instantly as soon as our funnel touched the ball.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Great, and thanks for the answer, good luck next time. If you want the surplus source I can look it up.

Re: pic: 1771 finished
That looks really impressive. Kinda glad we weren't competing against you:D

Re: pic: 1771 finished
Thanks cziggy. Im actually really bummed we don't get to go to atlanta. This is definitely the best robot I've ever been a part of. I really think we could have competed against the elite teams this year. I guess next year we're going to be even better though.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Great News!!! We actually just found out we are going to the championship. Everyone look out for 1771. We also have a new device for removing the balls much quicker which was our one weakness.

Re: pic: 1771 finished
Which division are you guys in?
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
we dont know what division we're in yet. It is rumored top be archimedes but we will find out later in the week.
Billfred stop by and you can get a tour of the beast. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Looks like a great suction device; glad to know we're not the only team who thought it'd work! Love the pneumatics too! :]
Here's our vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ruOk...eature=related |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Wow, I don't see your number on the list but glad to know you guys got in. It would be great if 1261 and 1771 teamed up...think about that...two Gwinnett, Georgia teams teaming up to kick butt at championships....that'll be so cool.

Re: pic: 1771 finished
Yeah it's a pity that we never got to team up. Keefer really wanted to run with yall. But think, two dominant schools from Gwinnett at world...man it gives me shivers just thinking about it. Did u guys get a chance to talk to stephen from our team???
R u sure ur in archimedes??? |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Yeah you guys were pretty awesome and it would be sweet to pair up. I was really wanting to at Peachtree but it just couldn't work out. Hopefully we can at least once now to show how great Gwinnett is.
Which guy was stephen? Was he the main scouting guy? |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Yeah..not sure what he was wearing..probably something stupid..so you guys are in world and in Archimedes then..i'll send stephen to u guys the first chance i get...not that i have that kinda power...but yeah...:D
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Was he the guy walking around with the clipboard at all times. If so then I talked to him a bunch the entire regional.
Definitely send him our way when we get there. Say...when are you guys gonna put up the peachtree videos? |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
It's official. We are going to be on Archimedes. Now we can hope for a match with you guys 1261.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
ALRIGHT>>>>
Ummm the guy w the videos hasn't done what he needs to do and he's lazy. So that is definetly a post-world venture... Boy..i'm excited now...get AJC on the line..this could be good...do u guys have a developed hybrid??? and...if you guys are interested in "hanging out" On Friday, during the team social, we're gonna hold our thing in front of the Marriot Hotel. There's supposed to be a bunch o' teams there and I guess u gotta order ur own food or something...anyways..let me know how that sounds....man i gotta email stephen. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Yeah for real. We should get the AJC to cover this. Norcross is in our division as well.
I know we are adding at least another line in hybrid and we have a device to remove a ball much easier now so hopefully we can get some good points in hybrid. Now that we can remove the balls super fast we should be able to average 5 hurdles per match although if things work strategy wise, like our alliance bringing the 2nd ball to us we could fairly easily do 7. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
I would like to say now that they are at nationals they are finished they wernt finished until then congrats i remember when our mentor told us you would not be going and all of our jaws hit tha floor
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
We're so excited we get a chance to show off our robot now. We were really disappointed that no one would get to see how good it was, especially watching other regionals and realizing we can compete with anyone.
|
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Congratulations to 1771 for winning the Xerox Creativity Award at the Championship!! You guys have come a long way in 3 years, and were very deserving of this award this year for a very unique approach to your design.
Glad you got to go to the Championship, I know it was a last minute thing but I really enjoyed seeing your robot again. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
I second what Jeff said. Your robot was absolutely amazing this year(especially after having helped build your robot at Peachtree last year:ahh:). It was so slick and I am glad you guys got the creativity award. I loved seeing you guys launch the ball from the other side of the lane divider.
You've done amazing things with your program this year and I hope we get a chance to work with you guys in the future. We have talked for so long about this Gwinnett Alliance, but it has never made it further just talk. In a couple of weeks(after the team gets a break and we clean up the lab) I plan on calling or contacting you guys so we can work it out. I'd love to see us do something similar to what MOE does with their team. |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Thanks mateo. The team has definitely made a ton of strides this year and I'm so proud of what has happened in this short year.
About this Gwinnett alliance thing, you should PM me and we can start figuring things out. We have a lot of big plans this summer that we can hopefully get going and I'd love to figure something out. What does MOE do with their team? |
Re: pic: 1771 finished
Hey all,
I recorded some of our matches at Championships and put them on my Youtube page. http://www.youtube.com/user/teamtestbot First three. I have two more that will go up later. |
