Re: FLR Robots
JB's 2008 FLR Power Rankings for FIRST Overdrive.
2-26-08 1. 1126 SparX (from what I've heard about their bot this year) 2. 272 Cyber Crusaders (shooters will succeed) 3. 67 HOT (looks like a great arm coupled with great drivetrain) 4. 340 GRR (linkage seems to be working efficiently, once again) 5. 365 MOE (another great looking arm design) 6. 578 Blue Lightning (their kicker is awesome) 7. 191 X-Cats (only seen practice bot, but they're perennial all stars) 8. 1511 Rolling Thunder (will be higher if hurdling can speed up) 9. 250 Dynamos (have to see launch mechanism in depth, should be higher up if good) 10. 2340 NAZ.a.r.e.X (rookie sleeper! very solid design, should be a good herdbot) On the bubble: 1743 Short Circuits (best non-hurdler at FLR?), 145 T-Rx (have to see video of lift), 1930 Comets (needs wd-40 =P), 316 Lunatecs, 639 Code Red, 1503 GM Spartonics *No offense to other teams that have posted info (174, 211, 378, 424, 1507, 1551, 1559, 1591), I needed more info on most of these teams to include them *Still waiting on pics from 20, 65, 68, 73, 84, 229, 768, 1126, 1450, 1518, 1585, 1713, 1728, 1765, 2053, and 2228 *Note this did not include 1405, my team, because I would be biased =) *Ya ya I didn't attend the Rally so this isn't a "scientific" study but whatev. So anyone else have predictions for FLR (from the little we've seen so far)? |

I went to the rally for a few matches so I got to see teams like Nazerex and Rolling Thunder perform. IMO, Rolling thunder performed quite well at the rally. Apart from a disappointing fall in the first match, they hurdled rather quickly, were able to knock a ball off the overpass while moving, and were speedier than most teams at making laps. Nazerex had a bit of trouble driving their robot and didn't look like they had been able to practice with it during the build season. They ran into the field structures several times (Sometimes pushing it out of position needing a field reset!). I think if they can get their driving ability set they could do well. I haven't heard any of the comments on Webster yet, anyone want to enlighten on what exactly is making them so good? So based on what I have heard and what I have seen, my rankings: 1. 1126 2. 272 3. 67 4. 340 5. 578 6. 365 7. 1511 8. 191 9. 250 10. 378 (Saw their robot at the Rally, had a simple efficient way to knock balls off (Similar to 272's pool noodles), and picked up and hurdled the balls pretty efficiently.) Also, 2228 has a photo of their robot in the trading card pdf they emailed and put on their site (Not a good one, but yeah) plus there are pics on their website. www.hflrobotics.com |

I have knowledge of them and how they will do as i have been to a few meetings and stuff. I surely know they do not leak out information until after a competition or two. |
Re: FLR Robots
Joe had them at number one, and since it sounded like he had heard things saying that they were good enough to warrant number one. If they were good enough for him to rank them first based on word of mouth, that's good, and I feel I can put them at the top for now until I find out more.

Re: FLR Robots
General note: I do not believe NAZ is one of the top 10 robots at FLR. This was a simulated seeding list, and I put them on for two reasons:
1. They're the only rookies, I cut them a break (maybe they're reading this and are gaining in confidence haha, who knows). 2. Herders and lapbots may be seeded just as high as hurdlers this year. Quote:

I find your comments very demeaning. |

Re: FLR Robots
LESS THEN A WEEK GUYS AND GALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On another note I have a funny little thing about how our bot got to Rochester. On the ship date it got picked up in Norwich, NY by truck and went to Syracuse (2 to a 2.5 hour drive). Then what ever shipping company we had to use put out robot on a plain and flew it to Rochester a flight that was all of 16 minutes. Where it got back onto a truck and went to RIT. Idk why our robot spent more time on the tarmac then it was in the air, but to someone at the shipping company it makes sense to fly stuff from cities there are about an hour apart. |
