A rather lengthy strategy concern...
Below are a collection of questions that my team has compiled regarding the strategy of the game. Please give answers that are as thorough as possible, and number to which you are responding to. We truly appreciate your help in advance!
1. Regarding scoring... We have some ambiguity regarding the entire scoring process beyond simply the points for various achievements. For instance... a) If a team from the opposite alliance is in the process of herding of our alliances's game piece and they accidentally bump our ball across our home zone, do we get the according points as if we had herded it across ourselves? b) What happens if a team on our alliance has possession of our game piece and drops it after part of their robot, even if just a bit, has already crossed our home zone? Do we receive any points for this? c) Does the game piece have to be removed from an alliance's overpass for them to qualify for the 12 point bonus at the conclusion of the game? Or is is it a legitimate bonus if a ball simply sits on top of an alliance's overpass for the whole game? 2. Regarding aggressiveness... a) Can a team from our alliance knock a game piece from a member from the opposite alliance if they have possession of their own game piece and we manage not to get tangled after attempting such a maneuver? Would this result in a penalty? If so, how severe? b) Can a team on our alliance block a robot on the opposite alliance if their team does not have an intention to pass us? For instance, is it legal if another alliance is close to their home zone and they are attempting to shoot a game piece above their overpass and a team from our alliance attempts to block them by idling in front of them? Try to ground all answers from the rulebook, quoting the text as much as possible. Thanks again for all your help on this matter! |

Re: A rather lengthy strategy concern...
1. a)
Quote:
b) The trackball is what matters, not the robot. Referring to <G10> again the trackball cannot be in contact with your robot at any point during crossing the line to earn points (from the instant it begins to cross to the instant it has completely crossed the line and is in the next quadrant.) c) The ball does not have to be removed to qualify for the bonus. This is addressed in this Q&A 2.a) If they meet the definition of Hurdling: Quote:
Then they are protected per <G42>. I can't find the original reference that extended the protection to trackballs as well (a team update perhaps) but it is mentioned in this Q&A . Beyond that I don't see any reason that their trackball would be protected. b) If you are just "idling" and you make no attempt to move and continue blocking and there is room to pass then you should be okay. The relevant rule is <G40>: Quote:
