Motor specs for self-balancing scooter

Hi, my name is Louis.

I am trying to build a self-balancing scooter. I have read many threads on this forum or over the internet on this topic. Many people uses wheelchair motors to power scooter. I want to ask is that what is the specs of the wheelchair motor? Any substitution?

Thanks

Re: Motor specs for self-balancing scooter

The most common wheelchair motors for self-balancing platforms are here:

http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/NPC-T74.html

As you might expect, the T74 is the more powerful version. Here are some that use them:
http://www.tlb.org/scooter.html (T64)

However I have a strongly supported hunch that the less-powerful (but lighter, cheaper, and cooler-looking) FIRST-style CIM motors can do the job too. They have the power, especially the double ones, just need to be coupled to a stronger output shaft. Those are available here:

Good luck!
