Thanks for posting those videos. It was great to see the full field and all the robots at once.

As I mentioned earlier, I do not have the time at the moment to do a good quality edit of all matches. Jonathan Norris and Kevin O'Connor (Vikesrock) have volunteered to help with the editing. In the mean time, I have rough cuts of the 3 finals matches up: sd_fm1_rough_cut.mp4 sd_fm2_rough_cut.mp4 sd_fm3_rough_cut.mp4

Unfortunately, for reasons I don't know, all the audio disappeared just before match 3 of the finals, so that match and all of the closing ceremonies have no sound.

I also have a rough cut of everything from Friday: sd_friday.mp4 This is a single large (850Mb) file, which Jonathan and/or Kevin will be editing down to the individual matches.

The video from Saturday should all be ready for me to upload no later than tomorrow morning. Again, this will be a rough cut which Jonathan and/or Kevin will edit down to the individual matches.

Great quality videos of the finals. Thanks for that.

Great quality of robots!! That was an amazing finals. To be honest either of the finals alliances could have won. We were so bummed not to get into the 2nd seed - for the 2,3,4 seed to be separted by just 0.4 ranking points and in the case of 968, to go to Highest match score to get the #2 rank was the closest I've ever seen.

1388 - can't wait to see you "boot" the ball again at Davis :)

I've updated the link in the previous post to go right to the videos from San Diego.

I just saw 330's bot and our claw scoring mechanism design is almost exactly the same, especially how the pneumatic opens and retracts it.
The big difference is our drivers cant drive our robot like that. They certainly need more practice WITH other robots on a dynamic field.
I was told that 330 spends much time with their drivers in practicing for matches.
Cant wait to check it out in Atlanta.

You were told correctly. I don't know how much time Shane spent practicing last year, but I hear the way it went was: Start with full battery #1. Drive until drained. Put on charger and get another. Repeat for all full batteries. Grab the first one onto the charger and put it in. Repeat until all batteries are drained. Do something else while charging them. Repeat from beginning... Until it's time to leave. (I wasn't usually there. Something about schoolwork.)

Eric, when we went to the Cinderella scrimmage, which it was only 599 and 330 for some strange reason, your dad said they went through 8 batteries like that. He did say there was another robot playing defense, but still, Shane got a lot of practice. I would say at least double of the time he would compete with on an actual FIRST field.

330 practices like no other....

Day before champs last year we practiced with them and drained a good 10 batteries among two robots within 2 hours.

Also, trying to defend '07 beachbot with the '06 is terribly difficult.

try defending 330 2008 robot with 599 2008 robot.... wait, i did that in Semi's :P

I felt so proud. Great job 330! Can't wait for Los Angeles.

From what I heard in San Diego, when Shane wasn't discharging batteries on the practice robot, he was building the competition robot. Maybe he put sleep/schoolwork on hold during build-season?

Isnt Beachbots homeschooled? I thought thats why the team is associated with the Hope Chapel. Maybe the "school" didnt have as much hw during the build season.

I wish I had the facilities they have. Though Chris told me that Hope Chapel is moving to a new location, and they may not have the luxury of all that room anymore. :( Though, 599 has an edge on one aspect, we dont have to do the ghetto lathe work. ;)

Yes...but a lot of our students take classes elsewhere, or through a school program. Those have homework. (It's actually through Hope Chapel Academy for the students.)

Hope Chapel moving...yes, maybe. (I'm not sure on the current status. I haven't been updated recently.) The facility they're moving into would be "huge" comparatively, so the robot team might be able to squeeze in somewhere, depending on what the various ministries want.

Before I chime in on the latest conversation, congrats to 968, 1717, and 294. You guys deserved a win.

Aside from school/sleep that's the basic story line.

And yeah, our batteries hate me for how hard/often they get run. :D

I've been collecting a pile of broken parts from the practice bot... I'll see about taking a picture tomorrow.

This regional was one of the most intense regionals that I have been in since I joined. The finals matches we're really close and each one came down to the very last second.

I really want to thank our opposing alliance (987, 330 and 2034) for such a great match. I feel really fortunate for going against you guys, and you sure didn't make it easy for us. And thanks to our own alliance (1717 and 294) for joining us.

Best of luck to everyone in their future matches! :D

We look forward to seeing teams at the Los Angeles Regional in two weeks, and then at Championships in April!

Why your welcome for the water!!! Your team is amazing and i know all of 2543 (well, the small 12 of us) were cheering for 1717 during the final rounds! And, admired your jumpsuits =] Hahaha, I really dont know how we got our cooler of water into the pits lol.

We were happy to be at the regional, it was a great experience for my newly organized scouting array, Though we had some driver problems, we hope to see you all in LA
(i thought it was funny, we led in average laps per match until our 7th Qualifier or so.)
1622, is also devloping a more efficient holding system to keep our ball in the lift, i especially enjoyed our match with 330 were we only lost by 10? points to 987 and one of the other top bots.
See you in LA
-Matt Baker
Lead Strategy Plus scouting coordinator
P.S. I had a VERY fun time planning what to do against the 987/330/2034 with one of my Alliance members with a broken bot, and one determined to hurdle :):yikes:
