Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

Teams 25 and 1089 are excited to announce a new, two-day off-season replay of FIRST OVERDRIVE, tentatively titled:

AUGUST ADVENTURE
August 2 & 3, 2008
Hightstown High School
Hightstown, NJ

(Right off of exit 8 off the NJ Turnpike)

This co-hosted event will be open to up to *60* teams, and registration will be $250 per team.

We are planning on a number of activities, which may include an outdoor barbecue/picnic, and possibly a team social at Six Flags Great Adventure, which is minutes from Hightstown High School.

More info as far as activities will be posted as they develop.

Please address all registration inquiries to Wayne Cokeley at smwonder@comcast.net

Any details on lodging and an exact street address?

Wayne C. 20-03-2008 11:13

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

There are about 4 major chain hotels in Hightstown, NJ (East Windsor) along Rt 33. This is less than 1 mile from the school. As we get closer we will help with info as requested.

The school is on Leshin Lane in Hightstown, NJ.

Everything is within 1 mile of exit 8 on the NJ Turnpike- right in the center of NJ and halfway between NYC and Philly.

I think i might jusy pony up the money out of my pocket so 354 can go!

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

The exact street address of the school is

Hightstown High School
25 Leshin Lane,
Hightstown, NJ 08520

The school is slightly off the main roads, so directions from 295/195, Rt 130, and the NJ Turnpike will be posted and available closer to the event itself.

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

I'm sure that a lot of teams have a lot to think about between now and Championships, so we hope to get a bigger response and make a bigger push once that's over with.

I'd like to see an event as big and as some of the regionals out there, but that might be pie in the sky, being that I don't know how many teams who can operate at a reasonable capacity during the summer. It should be fun, though! :)

I plan on making my way down there (if not with my team) then just to possibly volunteer & have quite an Adventure I'm sure!! (pun intended) :p

See everyone there!

If there's still registration open later on during the summer, I'll see. Right now we've got a whole lot of stuff to worry about. Sounds like fun, though. Keep us posted!

It was so great spending time with you at the NJ Regional last year,
and your team would be an awesome way to get our brand new event off to a great start!
I really hope we can find a way to make this work!

You can also join the facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...2115409&ref=nf

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

As of today we have 7 teams on the list- from as far away as Canada.

We need a minimum of 39. Still time to get in on the fun.

Why not make that robot and all the time you put into it have another chance at FIRST Overdrive?

You can even go to all the other events and have the robot become the champ of the entire country-off season circuit.

Register now!!! We are looking for you!!!

Hey guys-

your team filled out a form at Championships saying you wanted to attend so I listed you. I am waiting for your coach to respond to an e-mail I sent yesterday.

At this point that is the best we have for everyone.

Everybody else- now is the time to sign up. Talk to your teams and get the plan moving.

Attention all. August Adventure WILL be open to the public. If you guys have any friends or family members that are interested in seeing your robot, or just finding out how fun a FIRST competition can be, please encourage them to come. Space is somewhat limited however, so don't bring everyone you know

New developments!

August Adventure is still open to the public, but I have been told that anybody can come, and space will not be a problem!!

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

Are there going to be any modifications to the rules like some of the other off-seasons are planning? I think BattleCry re-wrote the G22 rule so that a robot had to completely cross the line in the opposite direction for a penalty to occur. I think it's an excellent Idea.

After playing at PARC yesterday with a similarly modified G22 rule, I can attest that it definitely positively increased the gameplay and resulted in much less penalties. We'll discuss it at our next planning meeting.

Re: Introducing August Adventure - a 2-Day New Jersey off-season event!

The following are official rule changes for August Adventure :

-For all four lines: a robot has to completely cross back over the lane divider in order to be penalized. Multiple line crossings will gain multiple penalties.

-Scoring will be based on robot and ball position when they have come to rest.

August Adventure Cancelled

We have decided to cancel the August Adventure tournament on Aug 2-3 because we simply had too few teams sign up for it. We didn’t think it would be worthwhile to run the event with only 12 teams- nowhere near our 25 team cutoff minimum.

Thank you very much to those offering to attend the event. I might suggest enrolling in Battle O Baltimore on August 9th as an alterrnative or any of the fall events in the Northeast.

We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause. We were hoping to put on an event that would be fun for everyone but I guess our region is simply not ready for such an event yet.

Hope to see you all in the fall off seasons,

Wayne Cokeley

Elgin-

the word is NO- we couldn't get enough interest last summer so this summer didn't pursue it.

Of course if you get 25-40 teams together who want to hold an off season over the summer I could probably find a place........
