iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
2 Attachment(s)
A few people on my team have iPod touches, so I've been working on a scouting app only for jailbroken iPhones and iPods (I know 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 work, but haven't tested 1.1.3 or 1.1.4).
I think it's ready for a preview, and might be "ready" for this weeks regionals. To install, add http://vthsrobotics.org/repo/repo.xml to your installer sources, and install iScout under the FIRST category. You must have the Jiggy Runtime Environment installed (jiggyapp.com) Attachment 6395 Attachment 6396 What things would scouts want in a program like this? TODO *All of the team numbers corresponding to regionals *Numerical data (laps, hurdles, etc.) *Web data/sync (time permitting) UPDATES *Added Non-Functional, Incomplete Competition Section *Fixed 1.1.3 Bug *Team Numbers DO NOT correspond to competition yet. current version .4 |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
Awesome. Make it sync to a central server.

Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
It doesn't appear to work in 1.1.4. I don't know much about how all this stuff works, but I installed it and it didn't show up.
Anyway, my biggest preference would be to have numbers instead of a rating system. Each person rates robots slightly differently and it makes for inconsistencies in the information. Keep up the great work. |

Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
I installed jiggy runtime, but it still won't work. any suggestions?
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
what firmware are you running?
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
i'm on 1.1.3 and its not showing up for me, I installed Jiggy runtime and Jiggy first, its not showing up when I install it.
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
okay I'll start working on the 1.1.3/4 bug
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
I'd suggest allow fields to numerically track how many laps / hurdles / lines crossed etc. At the end of the day, numerical data is almost as important as the human's opinion.
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
Someone with 1.1.3/4 try it again.
I will add numerical data soon. |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
this looks awesome!
Our team actually did the same thing! Hopefully we can get ours to work just as well! |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
From what I can see, it works perfectly in 1.1.3 using the Official iPhone Dev Team's jailbreak.
One thing I do find annoying is the list of numbers. Could you possibly make that a list categorized by the name of the team and a button in the top right hand corner to add a new team? |

|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
anyone happen to have a spreadsheet with every team going to each regional handy :yikes:
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
blaxbb,
why dont you just get them from the FIRST website?!? http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc...ts.aspx?id=430 |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
because then I have to type each team number for each regional, thats only a few thousand :yikes:
i'll probably do it anyway but I might as well ask |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
If there's no premade spreadsheet, I would still at least suggest using TBA over the usfirst.org website. You can access the data more readily, and it comes with the short-form team name rather than the longer one (which is probably the name you want for a mobile scouting application). Sample page:
http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...140&mode=teams It's still a lot of copy-paste, but it's better than typing and it only has to be done once. |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
Kind of a big update.
*You can now pick your regional, save it, and scout off of a premade list. *Only week 2 (AR,FLR,KA,VCU,SD) are added right now, I should have all on by tomorrow night 3/5. *When all of the weeks are added, information about the same team should (theoretically) transfer from week to week. *The Info fields are not finished, they should also be done tomorrow. *Pretty much ready for use. |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
It works on 1.1.4 now.
Just a few more suggestions: Total Score, Laps, and Hurdles should be integers only. There's no such thing as half a point, unless this program is intended to be used as a quick reference to averages and totals. There should be a notes field. There's always potential for something to happen that isn't on the sheet. Awesome work. I'm going to figure out how we can best use it this year. |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
any way to extract it to a computer or something along those lines, you know to print it out?
|
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
i think im going to get a touch just for it ....

Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
UPDATE Version 1.1
*Organized competition list by week number *Added Save to Spreadsheet -Saves as Comma Seperated Value format(only tested in OpenOffice) -Must be accessed via FTP (can't depend on wireless access at comps anyway) - A good FTP tutorial (not mine) is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv2XGm6Gn04 -You either need a wifi connection or an ad-hoc connection(look at "configuring the host computer" section) -Stored in /Applications/iScout.app/(Regional Name)Scouting.csv -Seperate Spreadsheet for each event |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
Just a question, but is the new SDK going to help the dev. of this wonderful piece of software.

perhaps if there wasn't a "nominal fee" only for ipod owners, or if it were available for windows/linux maybe if someone finds a way to run it, but for now I am less than enthusiastic about it |
Version 1.2
sorry for the lack of updates
UPDATE Version 1.2 *Added E-Mail Support -Must have Apple's Mail app installed *Added TBA team link from team info Add http://vthsrobotics.org/repo/repo.xml to installer.app |
Re: iPhone Scouting Application-Preview Release
Is there any chance that an update including the championship division teams will be released. This application was a valuable asset for the team's scouts and we much appreciate it.
