I have a question - which of these teams have names that are related to the school mascot, and which don't ?

For example : 399 the eagles, 842 the falcons, 476 the wildcats, 34 rockets
Do these also double as school mascots or are they unique to the team ?

I'm guessing maybe 20 % correlate to school mascots ??

Team 34 - Rockets is not related to the school mascot. North Alabama (Huntsville) has a lot of space based businesses and NASA's "George C Marshall Space Center".

Just thought I would let you know... Team 1676 The Pascack Pi-oneers, are purposely not related to our school mascot. We're a district team comprised of two sister schools, and as such, we decided to create our own identity, complete with separate colors and mascot.

One school being the COWBOYS and the other the INDIANS, we decided to stay along the same "theme."

Also, here is a link to our 2008 Chairman's award submission:

I can't say anything about the other teams, but our school's mascot is indeed the Eagle. Our team colors, however, aren't related to the school.

MARS (Mega Awesome Robotic Systems) Team 1523 does not have the same mascot as our school sponsor (Jupiter High School: Warriors), but instead selected an acromyn that has a more high tech/science feel & compliments our town of Jupiter. Home schooled & private school students have been team members, so being associated with our community in general works well.

Congrats to the Green Machine, who won at the Minnesota Regional. They put a tremendous amount of work in preparation for this event. It was a great event, and the award is well deserved.

My personal belief is that the chairman's awards submissions should be made public to the FIRST community. Not only as a system of checks and balances on wether or not the team has done as they say but also as a way to inspire other teams. We are always more then willing to share our ideas in the pits by why not with everyone?

Thanks a lot! I have always dreamed of winning the Chairman's award, and now as a Senior and the leader of the team, I'm very happy. There was a lot of tough competition at the Bayou, and I want to say that I'm exceptionally proud of my team and hope they continue the tradition of giving back after I leave.

Maybe not mandatory, but a voluntary repository would be valuable. We do post ours: 2008, 2007, 2006 I think some other teams do also.

It's just part of our "open source, raise the bar, GP" philosophy. I think reading other submissions can inspire other teams.

We host the regional FLL competition and we have a camera and microphone in every presentation room. That way parents and others can watch their team without being physically in the room. It is a very popular feature. It would be neat if the Championship (if not the Regional) chairman's Award was videotaped and made public. Perhaps all the presentations could be taped and given to presenting team.

Anyway, we agree with you. We learn so much from each other. We host the NURC competition and we tape and/or web cast everything we can. We have received many, many emails from groups thanking us as the videos and documents are better than any textbook.
