Re: Looking Forward's real identiy

I feel as if only three people would pull this off, and two of them frequently have similar haircuts

1. Tom Bottligieri - Even with a last name that hard to spell, he has made himself a household name as a master of strategy and has deep connections to the FIRST community. However, one would expect him to hype his own team (195) more in the CT predictions.
2. Sean Lavery - Often the same haircut as Tom (in my opinion, please no one hurt me?), and well known for his insightful analysii on the forums, which have been lacking as of late. He also has no team connection this year (iirc?), giving him an unbiased look, more potentially willing informants, and possible early views of some of this year's robots.
3. Corey Balint - He predicted the 2007 Champions, captained the finalist alliance in 2006, and won two regionals undefeated in the same year. Obviously a force to be reckoned with, but for those who know him, he is hard to take seriously in a year that has spherical game objects.

First response, now all we have to do is analyze the type of writing style and compare it to every possible person

This is assuming Looking Forward tries to write differently as LF

.. and so on.

Jut pay attention to writing style and formatting of the information.

Just like how everyone usually has their own style of written handwriting, everyone also has their own styles of composing ideas and sentence structure, almost as a form of an electronic fingerprint.

And even if these are related, I don't have a problem with it. After all, we all look forward to the great Car Nack's wisdom every year (he even has his own sub-forum!) , even though his identity is not entirely secret. ;)

One problem with this: Joe Johnson's rookie year is listed as 1996; Looking Forward's is 1992.

Unless LF is just trying to throw us off . . . ;)

The person who controls the LookingForward account did not start FIRST in 1992.

i think his projections can be regional based, 1305 has put together a strong machine and yet LF fails to metion them in his predictions. thats a majore peice missing from the waterlloo section in my opinion... if you look at hsi statements in there, the only two teams that he has paragraphs for are 1114 and 2056. looking at that stat, i can project that even if karthik is giving him tips. then this person is not from a team in ontario or a team that has attended GTR

him stating the other teams that were not competing, saying 1592.. which is a team in FL. shows in my opinion that LF is a person in the midwest region of the country....

Re: Looking Forward's real identiy

Based on the week 3 prediction, that person has way more knowledge of my team (469) than anyone else. And is way more interested in it that the average person.

I would say that Dr. Joe has to be involved one way or another because his friendship w. one of our main engineers has always made him a fan of our team and an "insider".

Other people who could have had access to information about our robot include anyone who came to practice at our facility. Paul Copioli is probably the second best informed "outsider" concerning our robot.

Anyhow... it doesn't really matter who it is. I really enjoy reading his posts!

Does it really matter who's looking forward's real identity is?

Will it make you change your opinion of his/her work?

All I know is that each week throughout the season I enjoy reading the articles put out by LF. Sometimes teams are overlooked (but im sure for good reason). But most of the time LF is pretty accurate with how that week will unfold and who will do what.

All in all thanks LF, for writing up something that intrigues so many of us.

Agreed.
Also, just a gut feeling with me. Chiming in my vote.

:)

Although, his father wouldn't necessarily keep quiet in order not to 'indict' him...Remember that Dave, too, is a sneaky character. He may not even know! :P

At least for me, no, but it is fun to try and figure out who it is. I believe that's the intent of the thread- not to judge whoever it is, but the excitement of finding out who's behind all these predictions. They are always fun to read.
LF, whoever you are- thank you, and keep up the great work!

I have to agree with Libby, does it really matter who Looking Forward is? Sure it would be fun to figure out this "mystery" but you have to admit, he is stealthy. Im "Looking Forward"<--horrible pun....to his next post

When I repped LF on those predictions this is what I got back:

Its probably Sean Lavery, still could be Dr. Joe. But my vote is for Sean Lavery...

keep it up overall good predictions (a few holes in Waterloo predictions, I can lend some help with GTR if you want).
