Re: "Where is Wolcott? Invitational" 14th June

Thank-you/congrats time!

- Thank you to everyone at the competition for making my last competition as a high school student a memorable one.
- Thank you to Team 1071 and all of the amazing volunteers who made the very first Where is Wolcott? Invitational so much fun for everyone.
- Thank you to Kathie K for organizing a NEMO meeting and her continued support of the NEMs.
- Thank you to whoever "relaxed" <G22>. It was interesting to see how it played out the way so many people suggested, even if there were still a few infractions.
- Thank you to team 195 for not losing faith in us and for being great alliance partners!
- Thank you to team 181 for being gracious opponents and offering your time out to us. (:
- Thank you to everyone on team 1124 (students and mentors) for making my last competition as a high school student with you guys fun.
- Congratulations to teams 181 and 230 for winning. You had a great alliance and you definitely deserved it.
- Congratulations to everyone else who won all of those neat-looking awards (Elgin was right, they are cool.) There were so many of them I don't think I named them all.

I'm pretty sure I forgot someone in that list- there were a lot of great things and people today- but I'll remember it as a great experience. Thanks everyone!

Ditto the thanks to 1071 for a great event! Thanks to 228 for the great pulled pork sandwiches and for being such great alliance partners. And kudos to our friends at 230 and 181; you were a powerful alliance and fun to watch!

Now you remind me who I forgot to thank, it was 228 for making a yummy lunch. How would any of us have been able to make it through the day without lunch? It is critical to the FIRST competition energy level. :D

Yeah, those pulled pork sandwiches were great! Where else does Gus bring that barbecue trailer?

Oh yeah, and I'd like to apologize for our autonomous failure today- during our first practice match, for those who didn't see it, we ran full speed (about 20fps) into the player station... It caused a five or ten minute delay in play...:o What happened was, there was an encoder on one of our wheels that dictated when our robot would turn. We finally had gotten it working in New York City, but after that practice match, we found that the encoder had broken... Our best efforts all day couldn't fix the encoder(and of course, we forgot an extra one) so to save the field from any more damage, we just opted out of running autonomous. I still feel pretty bad about this, and I realize it must have caused the field crew a load of pain (apparently, it knocked over the field radios and sheared a connector...). So again, I just wanted to say, we're really sorry.

Still, the day was a bunch of fun. The awards were great, too. I guess I'll always be able to find Wolcott now!

Thanks to all the wonderful teams who came to compete. It was interesting to be on the other side for a change, and as co-announcer, it was great to get to see a different point of view of the competition and get a better look at all the teams during the matches (the robocoach station during Hartford and Atlanta made it hard to see everything.)

I am glad that we were finally able to host a great competition. It started 2 years ago with a little idea that a friend of mine and I had suggested to our mentors, and now we finally did it. It was so much fun, and even though I am graduating in a few days, I plan on coming back next year.

Thanks again to everyone who helped, and everyone who competed.

A definite thank you to everyone who attended the very first Where's Wolcott Invitational. Every volunteer, Gus for the food, Jack Kentfield for being a great Master of Ceremonies, the list could probably go on forever.

Thanks to everyone for their patience with our technical and carpet related difficulties. I've never used so much duct tape it my life! Everyone was really great and that made fixing things so much easier.

Congratulations to our very first champions! Birds of Prey, team 181, and Gaelhawks, team 230, you played some amazing matches out there!

Thanks to my fellow referees Tom, Tim, Dave, and head referee Mr. Ellis. We were all new at this, but we pulled together and it was a lot of fun.

All comments and suggestion are more than welcome. Who would be interesting in attending next year? ;)

As for knocking over the field radio, you're not alone. It happened when we attended an invitational in New Hampshire, and it was our fault for not ensuring it was secured properly. It got fixed, which is what matters, so no worries. :)

Well Billy answered your question, but I wanted to say thank you for not crowding us. Somehow most of our team members didn't understand that non-pit crew members standing around and asking questions didn't help to fix anything. But hey, now they'll remember that for next time.

Me! Maybe I'll bring whatever team I join in college down from Boston. I wonder if they'll be able to find Wolcott?

I don't have my sheet anymore, but here's what I think it was (feel free to correct me if I am wrong):

1- 181, 230
2- 195, 1124
3- 558, 228
4- 1071, 237
5- 1735, 571
6- 173, 716

That was from me, not from Rob. Although I know that Mr Cormier was very pleased with the way things went, and you may actually hear from him soon.
