I downloaded and installed it, but i haven't had the time to test it out. The boot up time seemed faster, and all in all was not only a lot faster, but a lot smoother than XP Sp2, and definitely more refined than the SP3 BETA.

I have seen the RC2 speed results and remain hopeful, though I will still continue to use Emerge Desktop and Rocketdock instead of the standard UI.

I'm still looking into disabling the DWM. I have to slipstream the SP1 into an install DVD and then go through vLite.

I installed it last night as well. It did not show up the first time in Windows Update, but did the second. It took probably an hour to download and install. As far as the differences it has made, I haven't seen anything spectacular. My wireless connects faster (pre-login). My hard drive seems very slow now, but this may be because it's heavily fragmented after the install. Unzipping files is still extremely slow, so I'm sticking with 7-zip. I'll have to see how it adapts to the system.

Why is shell unzipping so slow! I've already edited the registry to send all unzipping to 7zip. I'm still trying to disable DWM.

A few other sites have noted about the slowing of disk read/write speeds. Anybody else notice anything?

I don't know... it's a real pain though. I think it does a virus scan or calculates the time to unzip, two features I can live without...

If you switch to Vista Basic theme, and disable the service called "Desktop Window Manager Sesson Manager" DWM should be completely disabled.

The slow read/write speeds could be due to the fack that

The Windows Vista SP1 install process clears the user-specific data that is used by Windows to optimize performance, which may make the system feel less responsive immediately after install. As the customer uses their SP1 PC, the system will be retrained over the course of a few hours or days and will return to the previous level of responsiveness.

BAH!!! I installed SP1, and now I have no sound. Leave it to M$ to not get it right . . . again. Off to find the problem.

EDIT: Meh, I restarted and all is sounding good now.

Heh, I already have a problem like that on my current Windows XP computer. Sometimes I am working and suddenly, what seems to be after a stressful computation process, some program eats my sound card (no more sounds come forth). I suspect that it may have a connection with one of my chat programs, but there is really no way to know... To release my sound card, I either have to reboot or log off and log back on. I know that it is a program that is probably not related to Windows because the sound returns to play my logging out sound while I am logging off.

EDIT: huh? Does anybody see the TBA icon next to my team number? It must have been an overnight feature addition since nobody else in this thread seems to have one...

I installed SP1 last knight, and so far it is working grate. it freed up space on my hard drive, and my computer is running faster then before the update.

Hey, don't forget that XP DESPERATELY needed its SP1, since it had many more major issues on its original release compared to Vista's original release.
