Re: Offering Website Evaluations

Michelle has the right idea - if you are interested in improving your website, look at the criteria used in evaluating the sites for the website award (even if you are not planning to compete for the award). You can ask anyone to do it using this criteria.

One thing many sites forget to do is check spelling and grammar. And then check all links to see if any are broken. Two very simple things to start with. Ask an english teacher at your school for help with the proofreading. Another common mistake is to forget to say who you are and where you are located, right up front, on the homepage. A third thing is not defining your audience - is this a website for the public to learn more about you? Then don't have team content on the homepage (like, the bus will be picking us up on Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. in front of school)! Put it on a team sub-page!
Concentrate on the content of your site, then the layout and design aspects. That often takes two different skillsets; it's not easy for one person to be both the designer, the webmaster, and the content editor.

Hope these tips help!

This was more popular than I expected. I'm working on them...kinda, I got hit with tons of homework (yay college).

Keep in mind, this is just so you can improve your team's site and all reviewing based on only my judgment, don't take this as a reflection of how your team may have / may be scored.

If you'd like to "sign up" please, as I said before...copy the list, I makes it easier for me to track who I have to do.

List as stands

Re: Offering Website Evaluations

Although teams are allowed to continuously update their websites if you have submitted your site for a Website Award at an upcoming Regional, please identify yourselves. I think it would be GP to have us not review your site until AFTER your Regional, in all fairness to others.

After all website judging is finished, I wouldn't mind taking a look at sites and offering some comments. In fact, I have a half-written NEMO white paper on the topic that I may find time to finish and publish, giving you the summer to think about making changes in your site.

I don't know, perhaps it is just me but your website seems to be malfunctioning. I click on links and the whole page literally disappears and all I see is that metal background. I refresh it goes back again and then disappears just as fast. I just wanted to look at it and I can't. :( Using Firefox here.

The website designer must have liked heXen...

IDK if this is the only problem but here is what i noticed.

1. you start the menu out hidden, but that would only explain the menus, not the pages.

2. (most likely from what i saw) you never ended the iframe. Its not a safe ending one either (meaning <iframe ....> </iframe>

I only glanced at the code so i might have missed something but i think that the iframe is messing you up in firefox and safari.
