Re: Offering Website Evaluations

to me, templates are half the fun. That is to say that i make my own 'template' for whatever website i am working on. they don't all that long to make really, esspecially since you have a whole summer of time inbetween seasons. I dont agree with using premade templates though, to me that is taking the lazy way out. In the business word, employers hire you for your ability to make new things, not to use things that are already made (that is using them exactly and without change)

Not necessarily- I'd be surprised if you told me our team is the only one who has different people making the website than the people who are responsible for the content.

My whole point is that by not using a template they get more exposure to CSS, HTML, and maybe PHP which is a huge part of the experience.

On the other hand, it might not be a desired part of the experience. For someone whose goal is merely to present information in an easy-to-access way, using a well-tweaked template could be the best solution.

Is the process more important, or is the result? That depends on whether the evaluation looks at the web site and pages or at the development tools and source code. As someone who uses web sites more often than creating them, my obvious bias is that the result is more important.

I know it's probably not one of the best sites, but we could always use feedback, so:

Is that not like saying, don't use the kitbot frame and transmissions?

There are valid reasons for starting on your own from scratch, just as there are valid reasons for using kits that are available to you.

I have no strong opinions here, but I don't think that that is a valid comparison. Creating a custom transmission requires expensive tools that many do not have access to. Learning (X)HTML, CSS, PHP, etc. is free and doesn't require expensive tools at all (they can even be written in Notepad). All it takes is effort and a little time.
