It is a general concensus (spelling mistake?) that the winning alliance will consistant of a combination of at least one ramp robot and at least one stack robot. The reason I picked 74 over you guys is because they've won 4 regionals and are one of the favourites going into this competition. |
Re: FTC World Championships
I am not saying that we are defently going to make it there but i am saying that it's a possiblity
|
Re: FTC World Championships
Just so there is no mis-understanding, i am not a member of FTC 189.
Edit: Everything is a possibility |
Re: FTC World Championships
Irregardless, 189 is definitely on the top of our scouting sheet going into Atlanta. Also, I'm going to assume 189 drastically changed their robot because of your comment =P

In the case of 339, they are in a different division than us and 189, so it won't be an issue until finals.
I think 339 was who you were referring to? |
Re: FTC World Championships
Have we forgot about 211 robodogs? They were a great partner in NYC and from what I hear just about as good as simbotics.

We will see what happens in Atlanta. Everything will be different from the regionals.

Re: FTC World Championships
The difficulty with FTC is that generally there is so little information available to do decent scouting. Or scouting comparable to the level you'd expect from FRC.
If you asked me who the "best" FTC teams are right now, I'd honestly have no clue. I'd also be half expecting to find a dozen or so EXCELLENT robots that I've never heard of. It's a fine balance with FTC. With the history of "comandeered" designs, many good teams are reluctant to post videos of their robots. But there's a point in time where this works against you; you might have a great robot that no one knows about, and slips through the cracks come eliminations. You might've even won a tournament, and scored some of the highest scoring matches in all of FTC... and people still would have no idea who you are. FTC is a strange beast sometimes. The information just isn't out there for FTC, but eventually, you either a) get the word out about your robot, or b) hope that the good teams down there scout you and understand what you bring to the table. Hopefully, you do some of both. P.S. I'm not a member of 189 either. I have no idea what new tricks they have up their sleeve, but we'll find out soon enough. |

Oh no, a mysterious modification to a mysterious robot! Can't wait =)

Wow, Edison is talking a lot of smack out here. We'd better come and bring it this Thursday/Friday. :P

Re: FTC World Championships
I agree...EDISON>>>
And that is something which I hope will change with the new kits. The robots should be shipped mainly for the copying and steeling of ideas. Teams that have been working hard to come up with their own ideas, get beaten by a robot who just ripped them off..It's not fair...it's no innovative..it's not FIRST. |

Lets keep this thread about Atlanta.

Re: FTC World Championships
I'd be willing to make a bet that there are a few beastly teams which copied 339's strategy in not mentioning themselves online. And nobody will know of them because they are either rookies or unknown in previous years.
I only have scouting data on about 30% of teams (pictures and data) and have heard the results of about 20% more, which leaves me wondering what the other half will bring to the field. On the other hand, if a team is consistently good, it is often well-known. |

Re: FTC World Championships
well ya im pritty sure no one has ever heard of 434 but we went 11-0 in the san jose reginal and have a high score of 86. it just goes to show ya the some of the rookies can have a shot at this and also its always good going in a competition when no one knows you and you can shock the crowd. and even if someone saw our robot we completely changed it and we are ready for altanta so everyone try your best and good luck:]

Ok, well the moment of truth is coming ever faster and teams are all great. If teams got by on luck, i'm sure that they have changed their design to match the intensity of other bots.
Yes, team 736, Robolions, also had to face the decision to keep our bot or go with a copy we found on the internet....we went with out bot...we did lose...but hey...i'm happy about how we performed. |
Re: FTC World Championships
Keep in mind, 655. We came in second at the CT. Regional and won the RI Regional. =)

Re: FTC World Championships
Yeah, high scores definitely aren't everything. The matches my team plays in tend to be low-scoring for both alliances, but that's because we have a really awesome defensive robot which shuts down a lot of high scorers but can't handle rings at all.
(The California teams in general aren't getting much recognition here. And there's a decent amount of good teams going - Beach Cities, anyone?) |

EMP and Enstein's daughter did a wonderful job representing California teams last year. This year, with more teams from California going, perhaps more teams will stand out.

|
Re: FTC World Championships
What an exciting day! with a new highscore of 111. Congradulations to both teams, especially 211 since you guys are canadian :p And im proud to say that 211 was part of our alliance at the Ontario championship ! :D
|
Re: FTC World Championships
I just want to say that even with the delay on the other division today's fields were ran well and that it was an amazing day can't wait till eliminations tommarow

Also, the high score of the Championships was 121 by team 74, and 30 (I am also very happy with that!). |
Re: FTC World Championships
well..at least i was right about 74 and team 3. Both had amazing robots...Simbotics had an amazing robot but it just wasn't their year...
And yes, i would like to see the finals...if anyone could post a link to those videos..that would be great... Also, did the match go into 3 games? |

Re: FTC World Championships
The last match was without a doubt the best FTC match I've seen this entire season. 74 started out by picking up their opponents rings and dumping them in their basket, preventing 13 from picking them up. By 1:15, the field was nearly bare of rings.
|
Re: FTC World Championships
I liked the battle we had against team 3 with keeping the goals and moving goals so their stacker bot missed the rings it was trying to score.
|
Re: FTC World Championships
Anyone got any footage?
|
Re: FTC World Championships
I am also requesting footage of the elimination matches for FTC. If anyone has them I will gladly pay for shipping and even a small fee if they are complete.
|
Re: FTC World Championships
I've hosting space too if anyone wants to put it online. :o
|
Re: FTC World Championships
i have a bunch of pictures that i can put online... if i can find a place to upload them
i took 500 pictures from just the friday of the VEX event, so yeah.... lots of pictures there |
Re: FTC World Championships
23, 30, and 74 definitely deserved the win! We already knew how awesome 23 was after they beat us at San Diego, and even when we kept 30 from scoring they still managed to win on goals. Congratulations to the winning alliance from team 25! We'll see you next year!
(To the Einstein's Daughters, if they read this- enjoy your trophy. :p) |
Re: FTC World Championships
COngrats to team 74,30 and 23 in a fantastic win for the Edison DIvison :D

Re: FTC World Championships
Here is some video of one of the matches with 30, 74 (I think final on Edison or the match we pulled a 121 pointer, I really don't know. By the way this is the first video of Overdrive uploaded this whole season).
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1EHRby2G3Q0 And here is one of the final matches but I am guessing the user that posted this video will upload the second match in a while. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV7uU0t1ikU |

The first final between the two divisions was really exciting for us. We got to show off the full capability of our bot when it really counted! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the second single goal open up in the last 15 seconds. Team 25 had it locked up for the majority of the match! When I got onto the field to check the position, I found it was only in our zone by 0.5"! Special thanks to 25, 30, and 74. You guys rocked! Andrew FTC Team 23 Coach |
Re: FTC World Championships
Heh, you guys did a great job of getting that last goal. Unfortunately, we had to let it go while we tried to prevent 30 from scoring- if they'd gotten those rings on it wouldn't have mattered whether you guys got the goal or not. Eh, you win some, you lose some.
It was always funny when both alliances were trying to score on the post at the same time and we'd be frantically trying to move one end while keeping the other as still as possible. Thank goodness Mr. Roboto had that hook. :D |
Re: FTC World Championships
I was really happy to see southern California teams in the finals! It seemed our paths always crossed at the finals though. I remember thinking, "these gals can play some serious defense; we have our work cut out for us." Perhaps next year we can pair up like we did in LA!

http://teen-technology.org/atlanta0708.aspx Ok I patched together this final match video, its was taken with one camera which got auto mode and a little of user control when the battery died and then smartly our camera man used a digital camera to record the rest. http://teen-technology.org/Documents/Final.wmv |
