Well, from our team budget, we spent maybe $8 bucks on hot glue and Velcro, but from the total donations we added up somewhere around 8 grand... But like we said, it was more or less laying around components that we put together to make an amazing cart.

Please remember that playing music in the pit is not only discouraged, but exceptionally annoying.

There is an especially warm spot in Hell reserved for those who needlessly add to the noise level in the pits.

I think even 280 got burned by officials at a regional once for playing their anthem in the pit area.

That's why I've always wanted to put a hugemongous audio system on a cart and have it noise cancel. Now we just have to wait a few more years till I get enough of my EE degree done... :o

Many have said (for various reasons) silence is loud... imagine when a cart goes by you it gets quiet and gets loud again when it goes away.

Also, before everybody shoots this down, I realize that given perfect cancelling ability with minimal delay the best you can do is attempt to servo the air pressure in the area to a stable level, which wouldn't allow anyone around the noise-cancelling device to be herd. Also, I'm not sure, but I think it would feed back too... although I'm not sure if there's any filtering that could be designed to keep that from happening. Again, I'm not an EE... yet. :]

Jut a fyi for those concerned
,we make sure that we do not play music ever in the pits. It is great for after and hanging out though. we also use it for festivals and events such as relay for life

I have no idea who it was but a couple of groups rolled a cart through the park between the GWCC and the Dome playing music on Saturday.

Personally I though it was really annoying. It is nice to get out in the sun and get some air and away from the noise a lights for a while so having all those features portable is undesirable IMHO.

I wish they would get rid of those vertical blowey sock things that make so much noise too up on that park. Makes it look like a cheesy used car dealership.

While I don't argue that you shouldn't enjoy a nice day in the park away for the hustle-and-bustle of the competition, having stuff like that being portable is actually a brilliant idea. Sure, maybe they shouldn't have done it through the park.
But think about other events not as loud or restrictive as FRC. Maybe at a showing in a fair, during one of their fundraising events, just plain making use of donated/extra parts, etc. I actually want to incorporate a system like that in our new cart, and after looking at a nice Linux distro I just read about, it may turn out pretty awesome.

The thing is, teams just need to learn when and where to use the equipment we build. They were probably just trying to show off, which isn't always too bad.

Btw, this wasn't a personal attack. JMHO.

no problem,

there are certainly applications for it. just not at that part methinks.

we jst rolled it through the park because we wanted to let loose a little, you know... get away for a minute. most people seemed to enjoy it, and nobody complained. if anybody complained, we would have turned it down.
and, yes, we are using it for offseason events such as relay for life, victorian festival and an upcoming green festival as well as several others. oh, and you can't forget the last day of school =)

It really didn't seem that loud probably because it was only a moment and those annoying vertical socks were screaming anyway. One the other hand being around the dome isn't like being in a national park.

I used to take a boat and go deep into the river swamps and check things out. It was like being a thousand miles from civilization and looked just like when Columbus came to the new world. Then some bozo redneck came up in his boat, parks, turns up very loud country music, drinks beer and gets sunburnt. His definition of fun, my definition of mega stupid. In the wilderness, getting drunk, stupid, sunburnt, dehydrated and deaf all at the same time.

sorry, just had to tell the story.
