Since this is our rookie year, this is our first time in Atlanta. It's gonna be SICK seeing all the foreign teams! And by foreign, I mean other than Canadians :p

Hey! What do you have against us Canadians? Haha just kidding! I'm so excited for Atlanta and especially for the teams from Israel. Everyone's so nice to us - I think it's because the only people that don't make Canadian jokes at us are the teams not from the US. Not that I have anything against US teams :P

Yes, there are teams from Brazil, there was a Brazilian regional on week 3.
The Israeli regional was on week 4.
There are also a couple of teams from the United Kingdom, one from the Netherlands, and i think that even one team from Africa! (Dean showed that out during his speech at the Israel Regional).
I think that in one of the regionals they even announced that next year New Zealand is joining us =]

It's the second time he came. He has also been in Israel at 2005.
After the regional, a meeting with president etc., Dean had a flight to the Hawaii Regional - some distance =]

36 teams competed this year (6 rookies, 30 veterans), and 6 won awards which qualify them for the championship.

All 6 qualifying teams are attending the championship (yey! :) )

Good luck to all our teams in Atlanta.

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering, how are the preparations of the teams going?

When will the teams arrive and how many days are they planning to stay?

:]

We plan to leave Israel on the night between the 14th and the 15th (the flight leaves at 00:48) and stay in come back on a direct flight on the 21st.

when we come back from Atlanta all the Israeli teams are welcome to come celebrate with us the first time an Israeli team wins the championship!! :)

BTW we intend to practice this saturday, so if there are any teams that want to come they are invited.. it will probably be us and Steampunk but if can arrange a 2vs2 game it will be reallt good for our practice..

That is quite optimistic, isn't it ? :D

Who knows maybe your team will be the first to bring a trophy from Atlanta to your high school.

Correct me if I'm wrong but none of the Israeli teams has ever won anything in Atlanta... :o

you are correct.
1574 has been semifinalist and ranked 2nd at Newton on 2007.
1942 were 2nd rookie highest seed in 2006 (curie i think)

the practice will be at our school, on saturday the 12th the whole day. if you know about anyone who would like to join plese let me know.

EDIT: if there is any possibility other than our school GYM that would also be great because our overpass isn't very good and we have no karpet..

Do any teams do a lot during the off season. Just wondering, because our team does A LOT during the off season, but I know that there are some teams that don't see each other again until the game is revealed.

zivo123 06-04-2008 16:27

Re: Watch out for the Israeli Teams!

i knew you would tell me to post on FirstAid and it has already been done :)
our problem with the carpet is more about how to attach it to the floor.. and i'm afraid that with the type of floor i know they have there, i am pretty sure that ducktape wont work..

I'd love to. It looks like I'll be in Israel between Mid July and Mid August. If the Off Season is then, and it doesn't conflict with anything, I'd love to come.

Steampunk 1577 got some left over carpet from the Regional... it's half a field wide, has rubber on the underside, and is heavy enough to hold itself down without duct tape.

Some do more, some do less, some don't do at all.
There is an off season event. Last year we had 7 teams attending. I will estimate that about 25% of the teams are quite active (1-2 times a week), most are about (1-2 times a month), and about 25% do nothing.
it's the famous bell here =]

WHAT?! Duct-Tape won't work? you just shattered my world!
Anyhow, like Leav said, some carpets are heavy enough and don't need to be sticked, though works better when they are.
What kind of floor is this anyway?

Okay so Waldo is officially in love with all the Israeli teams. And for anybody on 1547 that doesn't share the same obsession as everybody else on the team, I definitely make up for it! 1547 was right beside 1577 and 1690 was almost right behind us so our three teams pratically lived in each others' pits all weekend - I think they're some of the nicest and most fun people I've ever met in FIRST. Waldo gave them 2 awards just for being the awesome teams they are. We love Israel!!!

Re: Watch out for the Israeli Teams!

Hello everyone!

Team 2669 KY Bots from Kiryat Yam went to the Kessler Home of the ILAN Rehabilitation and Sports Center in Haifa, Israel.

ILAN is an organization which seeks to provide health care and facilities for the handicapped in Israel.

Our team began wide scale collaboration with the organization a few weeks from the foundation of our rookie team on February this year.

We have already conducted several activities aimed at helping the handicapped people.

When we began doing this, I have to admit, it was for winning the Rookie All Star award.

Nowadays, however, we are doing this for the smiles on the people faces.

Nothing compares to a child playing with joysticks and feels the same like every other child of his age.

This is pretty much what we are doing these days.

The following is a link to a report on Israel Channel 2.
It was aired on "Ulpan Shishi" which is literally "Friday Studio" and it has above 30 percents of rating as it is a prime time show.

You are welcome to check this out:

http://www.keshet-tv.com/VideoPage.a...entCatI D=330

So what do you say?

Well at every competition we give out awards such as Most Spirited, Best Pit Design, Best Alliance Partner etc. I'm not sure if this picture works but there's pictures of me handing them out on facebook if you have that. Giving out awards is a great way to let a team know what they're doing is great. The Israeli teams were so kind to us the whole weekend and we both helped each other a lot. We had to let them know some how that they're really great teams. I wish I could've spent more time with the other teams from Israel though!

Sorry if I'm a little off topic!
