Well 816 might be there I don't know. But I will certainly be there cheering everyone on. Always a fun time at MM.

I just put out the feelers for Lansdale Catholic Cyber-Crusaders Team #272 to attend. I suspect we will but the following week is final exams.

Thanks

Thirty-firth? Thirty-oneth?

Although I am not the one responsible for such things, I would be shocked if 1676 was not planning on being there.

I've never actually been to Beantown.
Although I'm not exactly neutral (my inner self says GO TO MONTY!!!)
I would go to the one you haven't if youve gone to both.

GO TO MONTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any FIRST event should be fun so I would, myself choose Beantown since I havent gone. But if I went to both then I would go to MONTY.

Re: 2008 Monty Madness!!!

been doing first for a while, and have been to MANY off season comps, but up in beantown we put on a good show, one of the most professional offseasons comps you will see, full arena (Matthews arena-"The world's oldest ice hockey arena" in operation since 1929), 38 teams, custom adaptation of the game (ask anyone about the golden tube last year, it really took rack and roll to another level!), possible professional lighting from color kinetics (), team bbq/lunch, and BEANTOWN.

Come on up to beantown, you won't be dissapointed!

check out the teams coming so far, this WILL be a very competitive event!

why this is a feat in its own, saying something like you've never missed a PARC or youve never missed a battlecry would be way more impressive ;)

 :ahh: zomg!! i won't be able to come to Monty this year *tear* That's kinda depressing... ooooo the curses of loving NASCAR and Robotics... maybe i'll just take some robots to Dover and race them around the track  Could be more exciting... especially if we leave the cars on the track :D

I just signed my team up for the wait list last night. We were having trouble because we couldn't decide as a team except over email or at a meeting and i kept missing the meetings and I was afraid to send an email because the prez said he didn't want to.

Do we have to pay if we are just on the wait list?

Edit
Also even if our robot does not get to go I will definitely head up there, probably with a bunch from my team.

Thats exactly what i was thinking but then i realized it would make it hard for the drivers to see. But it would be a great thing to do for autonomous. But then again we have to see if we are doing it or not. I will bring it up in the meeting though.

To the question which you quoted. I believe you do not have to pay on the waiting list, I'll try to confirm that answer.

As to volunteer spots, they never get filled because its unlimited. Jobs range from handling the Monty Cafe, to Queuing(is that how you spell it?) to Field Setup and Audio-Visual. There is a bunch of stuff to be done, just fill out the form at this site: http://montymadness.org/Contact%20Us.html , and you're a volunteer, or you could just "drop-in" if you would prefer.

Looking forward to seeing 694 again.

So yeah we definitely are not going. Our mentor said it would be near impossible to get the paperwork for NJ. We need it because apparently the robot is our school's property. Although it sucks we cant compete we can still visit and volunteer.

Yeah even if you are not competing if you can get there I would suggest you do. It will still be a great time and there will be a lot of cool people there. And it will give you a chance to cheer for your favorite teams there ^_^.

I am not entirely sure, but I do know it is not something you submit for- one of our mentors won it last year, and while he was certainly deserving of the award, the team had no idea he was going to win it!

As far as I can remember the judges talk to and observe teams at the event and see what they have to say about their mentors. From that, they start to form their decision on the Woodie Flowers Jr. award.

I have a feeling those involved with the planning of Monty would have more information than I do. I hope this helps.

Most of the awards at Monty Madness are given based upon the discussions our judges have with the team members and team mentors. Each year, we've had a team of 3 to 4 independent judges and they have complete latitude to make the decisions.

Unlike official FIRST events, there is not a way to submit materials beforehand for awards (although this may change in the future for some awards).

Hey everyone just an update of how Monty is getting prepared. We are at the moment trying to get the final team list together. We still have a couple of teams we are waiting on. Another Huge thing is we still need about 70 more volunteer like seriously. This event takes a lot of volunteers to run very very smoothly as all of those people that have been to it before. So if you can make it and are willing to volunteer please do it. Heres the Link again http://www.montymadness.org/Contact%20Us.html. If you have a problem with it submitting please PM me with your info.

Also as an announcement I would like to let everyone know that we are holding a College Fair this year. So if anyone thinks they have a good contact at any College nearby or just a good college in general please PM me .

Thanks
Sudheer

Any open spots left? We apparently can't even go to PARC b/c of lack of available supervision :( Worst off season for us ever:(

Sorry about not updating you guys, it been a busy couple of weeks. But the volunteer assignment should be done soon if not already. They should be sent to you all soon.

And to start off the count down for Monty i think we should talk about the awesome stories or just a awesome thing that has happened at Monty before. So to start off let me say the best i had was the last match of Monty last year.

So what did u guys think was the Best at Monty before?

What did I think was the best at Monty?

My team was ranked #9, and not selected for eliminations. Normally this would get a team down, and it did- in fact, it caused a bit of tension between members of the team. So much so that a few of our students took the robot, while some of us were getting lunch, and decided to take it back to the school. Well, what do we know, 1923 is called into the eliminations as a backup, and we don't have a robot.

This is sounding like a pretty sad story, no?

Wrong. Team 103 was kind enough to lend us their practice 'bot in our time of need- in a match against their real robot! Their practice bot wasn't perfect, and when it broke, their drive team came over to the opposite side of the field to help us out in fixing it. One of their team members was even our drive coach during the matches! We ended up beating them, and making it to finals. That recognition gave us additional support from our school, and enabled 1923 to continue on into the 2008 season. 103 was excellent towards us, and we owe them- big time.

I wanted to post this not only because it was my all-time favorite moment of Monty, but as an additional thank you to 103 (It seems I can't say it enough).

I know for a fact our robot won't mysteriously 'leave' after alliance selections this year (it's a new 1923 rule: if there are matches being played, and team members want to play, the robot does not leave!), but I do hope that all the teams in attendance will show the same sportsmanship and true Gracious Professionalism this year, no matter what scenario should play out with a team.

I'm looking forward to Monty- I have this whole week off (until Thursday!) with nothing to do, except get psyched up. Can't wait!

p.s- 1403/75; if you need help with setup on thursday/friday night (I don't remember which night y'all did it last year, but I know I was there), I am here to help out! Send me a PM, or some of your team members have my cell number.

I believe the Monty Madness planning committee has started to send out volunteer assignments yesterday. If you have not received an assignment yet, please be patient as I am sure the organizers are working hard to get back to you asap. :)

Wow, I can't believe another Monty is only a few days away. Time really goes quickly when you are locked up in your dorm room trying to finish problem sets at 3 in the morning. In any case, I can't wait to see familiar faces as well as new faces on saturday!

Good luck to everyone competing and I think I speak for all of us when I say, let the Madness begin already!! (I am sure everyone over at 1403 will appreciate that one ;))

Besides the fun that I get out of setting the field up and tearing it down, what I love about Monty is how it is a family event for my family and a few other people. Probably watching my little brother MC last year with Wayne for a little bit was one of the greatest experiences for me in my time in FIRST. Donagh is still talking about it and also about the time he got to ride his first Segway thanks to a promise somebody made with him on New Years Day.

Its also fun because 1403 tends to play well at home and in case you have never hosted an offseason at your school, is an experience that you will remember.

On the field, I remember a bunch of crazy things happening since I have reffed both of them so far. There was one crazy dodgeball fight too...

I wanna wish all teams the best of luck tomorrow.
I'm sad that I have to miss Monty :( But I am watching 3500lb race cars make left turns this weekend  Close to about 100lb robots... right? :p lol.
But I know Monty will be a blast - can't wait to see pictures and read how it went and everything.

Hey everyone, keep a heads up for a webcast coming your way sometime tomorrow hopefully! The awesome AV Crew got some new equipment so you might see some angles that have never been seen by a living audience before on a regulation field.

Re: 2008 Monty Madness!!!

Agreed, Monty Madness was yet again a blast however I wasn't too pleased with how many teams that were showing spirit :-(. Only 2 Teams that I know of were cheering loud enough that you can hear them.

Oh and my bad for being so blah during Alliance Introductions... That was my first time doing it and I really wasn't prepped for it :-D... Next time I'll be ready I hope :o .

Re: 2008 Monty Madness!!!

Congrats to all the teams that won awards! Great matches going at the end and dancing as well.

Thanks to all the volunteers that did a great job, especially Mr. High and Mr. Brooks who have worked hard for the past three Monty Madnesses.

And just want to put out there that all those that were in the audience, got RICK-ROLLED, courtesy of Spirit from Team 1403! We've been planning to sing that since the end of NY Regional, when we heard the song played at the Regional.

Thanks again guys for being there and keeping the excitement going!

we were all rick-rolled multiple times! It was quite funny.

I had a fun time at Monty Madness game announcing. It was my first "full-time" gig. It was a pleasure working with Wayne P and Mike M out on the field!

Great job to 1403 and 75 for an excellent event!

Had a great time at my first Monty. Thanks to Wayne and Chris for letting me do some color commentary for them, and it most definately will not be my last time. Thanks to our great alliance partners 612 and 1403, we good run.

Hopefully this isn't the last time you see me at Monty.

I agree, this is a great Monty moment. We are always here for anyone that needs help - no matter what. I had a lot of fun coach y'all, it was fun to coach team members that weren't on my team. And I believe that the keep the robot here at all times rule is in deed a good one.

I would like to give a big thanks to 271 and 284 for making awesome partners at Monty this year! Y'all made it fun. And congrats to all the teams that won awards this year. Also, I must applaud every team that came to Monty this year, it was tons of fun and a great competition. Also a BIG thank you to team 1403 for once again making Monty Madness an awesome off season event!

Cass :)

Re: 2008 Monty Madness!!!

Hey, thanks everyone for being so great on Saturday in Montgomery, NJ! It was our busiest Monty Madness ever with 40 teams participating. Although we had fallen behind schedule early on, we actually ended our celebration pretty much on time. That was awesome.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers, but some special thanks to our three-year veteran volunteers on the field and the queues: Pete K., Sarah N., Mike N., Liz S., Sarah R., Zubair C., Lea A., Conor R., Nick T, and John K. Of course Wayne Penn as always, was the consumate professional and star, while we enjoyed Mike Massa's start to a new career ;). And I cannot understate Chris Gregory's contribution to the event - he worked tirelessly and to impressive effect.

There are so many others who contributed to this event with over 128 volunteers having checked in on Saturday morning and working throughout the day. I apologize for not naming them individually, it is certainly not meant to reduce the significance of their contribution. Of course the Monty Madness Planning Team was instrumental, with Mr. Tim Leicht being key to greasing so many wheels in getting the entire event accomplished and Mary Kazan getting the food and other sales services organized and efficient. Also thank you to our partners, Team 75, who contributed their time, materials and volunteers in great numbers. A particular thank you to our new friend Debbie Simpson, a mentor for the RoboRaiders team.

While we don't have videos recorded this year as our we ran into technical difficulties just as the event began (and is why the webcast froze), we will have a seriously high number of still pictures from the event available soon online. We will let you know when they're "up".

If you have any feedback whatsoever about the event, good or bad, please let us know by emailing us at feedback@montymadness.org. Please forgive us if we don't reply immediately as we're all still in recovery mode, but we will do so eventually. Thanks again everyone!

I wouldn't call it a new career just yet however I will say it'll be something new that I put down for when registering at local events :p .... All I need is a little more training from Wayne and possibly a few others and I should be just fine....

It was fun be coached throughout the event by Wayne and a couple of teams :D. It is not as easy as it looks as I continously thought :p.
