Re: Archi-medes!
We have a couple of remotes and a kluged together one with
3 leds on it. The problem the receiver gets bombed with a lot of cross talk if two run at once. So you had two or more running at the same time and it worked? |
Re: Archi-medes!
Quote:
Also at BMR people were using IR like crazy and there was no meshing of the commands. You will probally be safe at Atlanta, if you aren't make a different remote or reprogram it. Seriously it takes like 5 min. to do it. P.S. I also like the word kluged, I'm gonna start using it  |
Re: Archi-medes!
Have we lost 2668? They're no longer listed as registered for Atlanta on FIRST's site... nor in our division...

And also whoever had the 300th post on this thread totally should have yelled out "THIS IS SPARTA!!!", it would have been so cool. Sadly they did not :( And we want to show the members of the CD community our defensive playing style: http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/h...ainst217.fl v This was against 217 on their quest for their 3rd championship (they didn't get it). We played super defense to take the match with our future alliance partner 33. |
Re: Archi-medes!
If any girls out there want to support 816 you can get your nails painted in either blue or orange, or both. You will see my mom and dad wearing. Yes, my dad has gone over the edge. But yeah if you want to get them dont just go to the stands and ask for Mrs Mccanney or Dannys mom. Or if there are any guys out there who want it.(You never know.)

1771 got 7 hurdles in one match?! jeez...
2 laps in hybrid seems a bit far-fetched though... ive only seen one team do that in a practice video, and it maxed out at 24fps. one lap is hopeful thinking in this game (= |
Re: Archi-medes!
OMG. ... Team 201...I am officially scared of you guys...team 217 can easily get 7 hurdles in a match and you guys held them to three...that is a some crazy defense..i bet u they were really frustrated...
|
Re: Archi-medes!
Quote:
|
Re: Archi-medes!
Well, this is only practice, in the actual match we'll be lucky to get a lap...but our programmers have recently hit overdrive and I think we'll be able to get a great hybrid in time for world. We should be able to get both balls off along with our lap...but we'll see.
|
Re: Archi-medes!

I've seen 7 hurdles enough times to believe it. 2 laps though... wow Billy, I was right when I told you our hybrid was nothing compared to other teams. |
Re: Archi-medes!

They seamed frustrated, but when they talked to us (we had pits right next to them) they were glad they lost to that and not something simple. I wish we could be on an alliance with them though, it would rock. Meeting them in einstien would be cooler though... Quote:

sorry ma'am |
Re: Archi-medes!
Yes in one match during the eliminations we had 7 hurdles although we ended up losing because our alliance partners racked up so many penalties so it was slightly bittersweet.
Also that was with us taking about 15 to 20 seconds to remove the trackballs which now we can remove the trackballs on the fly. Our shooter is also even stronger now meaning shooting from farther and across the lane divider. |
Re: Archi-medes!
Listen up everyone!
If anyone is going to the CD webhug PLEASE contact me! We want to set up a archimedes meet and greet, and I need to know who will be going. I want to make a list of everyone so it can be more "official". Be prepared to pass out buttons and other team memorabilia to people from here so come prepared. If you have any questions you can PM me and ask or PM me for my cell if you want to talk. I leave Wednesday and spend a day on the bus, so I have lots of time then. If anyone wants to help me out with this contact me! I will be the tall blond curly haired guy with a feds sweatshirt on. I will be wearing a nametag that says Alex Dinsmoor Team 201 |
Re: Archi-medes!
George and I just got a couple shirts but I think people called dibs already...sorry:P
Also, I had no luck being able to go out and buy those nametags. Anyone else? On the up-side, we will have 1000 buttons Wednesday night or Thursday morning (maybe Friday?) to distribute around the pits so be sure to stop by for this year's awesome button design. Its posted somewhere up in CD Media if you wanna see it. |

Wow, after reading all of these posts, I am truly excited to be in Archimedes in my first year in Atlanta. We are by far the most spirited division we'll have some killer alliances formed to pwn Galileo, Curie, and Newton. Its and honor to be with such great teams and people and I can't wait until Wednesday morning when we leave at 5AM for Atlanta. See you all there and have a safe trip down please:)
Until then, see you all later. |

Re: Archi-medes!
Can someone tell me where the team name "Exploding Bacon" and the cheer "oink oink boom" came from?
I have wanted to know since they hit the scene!!! There has got to be a great story there! I have heard of college pranks involving dead animal carcasses, welding gas, and rival fraternity houses----but I don't think that is the same story HAHAHA (it is a real story) someone--PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE tell me where exploding bacon got their name. |
Re: Archi-medes!
Does any team have a small bore/small length pneumatic cylinder we could use at the championship?
|
Re: Archi-medes!
Quote:
The cheer came from MikeTWalker. The night before our first regional ever we were going over things and he came up with it....we ran with it. The coolest thing I ever heard was when we won Rookie All star that year to hear the whole arena screaming OINK OINK BOOM as we went down to get our award. With teams like PINK, SPAM, MARS and Sigma Cats in the house...you know it was loud. |

Re: Archi-medes!
Ok--it was a good story-------not as exciting or disgusting as the exploded sheep in the FarmHouse frat house, but still good.
The first time I heard "oink oink boom" I couldn't understand it, the kids with me explained the correlation between the cheer and the teams name. Then I saw a button--and I "got it". Most original team name/ team cheer yet. Thanks for sharing. |

987 would love to give you a hand...could you be more specific? I assume you need a 3/4 bore but what length stroke? |
Re: Archi-medes!
!!!I think my head is going to explode!!!! The next team I help start with a neighbor out of my garage, I think we'll name them Randomly Bacon.
But for the real reason, it came from Jim Gaffigan. |

We would most likely need a 1" stroke 3/4" bore cylinder. If you have one that would be so awesome

Re: Archi-medes!
Thanks everyone for looking into it. We will probably be needing one in 3/4"bore 1" stroke or maybe a little bit longer but not much more. One from a shifter would be great.
|
Re: Archi-medes!
In response to the post count.
I did a little checking, and of the past 2 years (the only years i could find info on all 4 divisions) the division with the highest post count won one year (2007) and was a finalist (2006) Let's hope that trend continues, because that way we go home with some medals! |

Smurfgirl if you could get XL shirt that would be awesome. I have 5 extra team shirts to trade away. I thought I only had two but I found more, yay! But George if they are different shirts than Akash told me about I will take one but if its the same than I will already have one. But yeah if anyone wants a shirt let me know. I have like 2 large and 3 XL. Sorry to the smaller people noone is small in my house. Alright guys, well I am about to start the long drive to Atlanta. I may be on tonight if my dads laptop gets internet wherever we stop for the night(I am going to request that it does.) If not I can't wait to see all of you Thursday and possibly Wednesday. Keep up the spirit on the forums and lets see it when we get out on the field. Archimedes for the win the year, lets do it. Wish me luck on the drive down. I will be putting buttons on beads and blowing up beach balls. Should be a very interesting time with the kid I am driving down with. At the end of the weekend I hope we all meet new friends and have great, fun, safe times. And if you lose this weekend don't get mad cheer on whoever wins for Archimedes. Also, remember to help the rookies in anyway you can and the veterean teams as well if they need it. Winning is cool and all but learning and making new friends are a little more important. Don't get me wrong I am gonna be stoked if we win.

I don't think we're the complete underdog but we are definitely not predicted to win. I think whatever one 1114 and 217 is in is predicted to win. I think our division can definitely hang with them and even beat them. It would just take some strong strategy and defense.

For instance... our gripper used to be slow on the up/down, so, if you could keep the ball rolling we'd have to follow it for a while. Now, it takes about 0.75sec for the ball to go from the pickup to the shoot position. ...On that note, watching game tapes of yourselves can help you identify critical points of your own gameplay you can improve on or help to minimize the chances of another team capitalizing on a specific characteristic of your robot to their advantage. Re: Archi-medes!
The point of my post was not to say that I don't think that they can't be beaten it was just to answer the question of are we thought of as the underdog division.
I personally think we have good enough robots to easily beat a hypothetical 1114/217 alliance if we develop and follow a good strategy that employs a lot of defense and we hurdle like mad. I watched one of the thunderchickens matches where they had defense played on them and they did not score many hurdles at all. They are without a doubt beatable. 1114 is the same way. If you keep the balls away from them obviously they can't score that many points. I definitely feel that Archimedes can take the championship and I really hope 1771 can be a part of bringing home the world championship. We have made the necessary improvements to our robot to make it easily competitive with the best in the world. |

Re: Archi-medes!
Luckily for us holding the ball is one of our strong points. There is no way for us to lose the ball after we acquire it since we're holding it with over 400lbs of suction force.
Our main weakness was the time it took us to get the balls off the overpass. Before we had to use our arm which took around 10 seconds per ball and put us in danger of getting stuck on the overpass but know we have built a device that allows us to remove the ball just by driving under the overpass. I do think the winning alliance will probably be 2 offensive and 1 defensive bot however I think the defensive bot will have to be able to hurdle in case one of the offensive bots breaks in the eliminations. |
