Re: Galileo Division 2008
adding to my previous post, a D robot can also be enhanced if they can block shots. We've been discussing ways to play this strategy on our team and i think it would be highly beneficial. Not only could a defensive robot play keepaway and knock off the ball, but if they could block shots that could help out a lot too.

BUT. If you want to put your robot in front of another when they are shooting at 7-10lb, 40' ball at about 5-10mph....I would highly request that u think about that again ;) |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Exactly what I was worried about. I've seen a team (1359, I believe) succesfuly block a shot during the Las Vegas regional finals. I'd just make sure your robot is designed robustly enough to take that shot before you try blocking it.

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Plus, if you try to block a shot while the player is trying to shoot. You have to have a VERY high robot. If you are to close to them and they bump into you while they are trying to shoot, you will get the penalty. :O

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Hey! Team 223 in the curie division and are looking to align with a team from each division for scouting. With a small group like ours, it is difficult to scout in all four divisions.
With a team in each division, we can all share our scouting information when it comes time for pairings. If your team is interested or has further questions, feel free to e-mail me at kazzykaty@aol.com. |

If the shooting robot is low, you only have to be taller than that. If the shooting robot bumps into the blocker, that is a "bump to pass" signal. Impeding may or may not apply, depending on if there is a clear path or if the blocker robot is moving side to side. It is hurdling interference only if the blocking robot bumps the shooter, not the other way around. |

We could do that, we have about 90 lbs below 8 inches high and our arm goes very high. 1 and 1/4" tube construction is pretty tough. If we find ourselves in a tough match against a team that "fires" the ball over the overpass we will have to give it a try. There is a caveat: This will only be possible against a very few shooters who fire at a little distance from the overpass. Other shooters get right up against the overpass when they shoot and it would be nearly impossible to block without interfering with their hurdling move. So much of what is being talked about here depends on the qualifying match ups. Can't wait to find out who is playing who. |
