Galileo Division 2008
So who here is in the Galileo Division this year? from a glance, this teams to look out for seem to be 25,103,254,and 1114.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Don't forget 148, 494, 330, 469, and a whole slew of others...
I'm officially scared. |

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Galileo is STACKED this year
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
It's 384's division (for like the past 4 years), and it looks to be much much more intense this year.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
217 is in Galileo, and we're definetly pumped. Looks like there will be a lot of tough competition.
woot! |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
1717, 980 (herder), 65, 70 (You got one set of Martians, how about More Martians?;)), 229...
You should be more than scared now. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Ho. Leee. Crap.
Wow this is one stacked division. While we don't really stack up (pun intended) to the top scorers in offense, Paly Robotics will be bringing a good dosage of our (now improved) west coast Defense to Atlanta. Can't wait! |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Ha, this division will at least be very fun to watch, even if we get trampled every now and then
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Can't forget team 40 who was unstoppable in the Northeast this year winning both Boston & New Hampshire Regionals!
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Galileo officially scares me, the alliances coming out of Galileo are going to be ridiculous.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
195 is happy to join the fray!
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
GALI...
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
I have to say it:
Fear the SimChickens What do you think are the odds of them getting together? Busting out these T-shirts? Could Karthik and Copioli they have planned this all along? Note: I am just joking around with the planning stuff. Don't start with any 686 dropped out on purpose conspiracy theories. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
wow what a great division. I hope the rookie team I'm helping out this year will be able to learn from some great alliance partners during the qualifiers :)

Re: Galileo Division 2008
I still cannot believe how stacked this division is..
Newton 06 repeat? |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
MARS is thrilled (& afraid ... very afraid) to be on Galileo. All top contenders will be watched closely and robot alien autopsies are planned. Your secrets will be ours next year!
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
wow i can't wait to get down there, from the looks of it every match will be incredibly exciting. I'm ready to play with the bestand so is 1629 go GaCo
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Holy moly...most stacked division I've seen in a long time, I can't wait/pray that 1138 plays against some of the great teams we haven't had the chance of playing yet. Amazing.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
1676 reporting for duty! Probably not going to be in the top 8, judging by the AWE-INSPIRING contenders in Galileo, but we'll do our darndest!
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
My guess is that 1114 doesn't get #1 seed in Galileo. With a strong field but a high standard deviation (check the OPR thread), the odds that Simbotics are stacked against 2 good robots and paired with some maybe not as good are higher.
With so many good robots it's going to come down to a lot of luck with qualification matches. On that note, even if they aren't #1 seed they'll probably get picked first anyway. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
This division is really stacked. I want to see how this plays out.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Oh boy! this will be an interesting division, I can't wait to see how it plays out.
I hope we just manage a good showing in the qualifiers after seeing how many amazing teams there are...! See you all there. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Galileo reminds me of IRI - it's absolutely loaded with top FRC teams.
We'll be lucky to survive! |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Nobody has mentioned 1540 Flaming Chickens
Oregon Winner (1st Seed) Las Vegas Semifinalist (3rd Seed) And again the list goes on of great teams in Galileo |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
I have not done the math but i am willing to bet that this division has more regional wins the any other 2 divisions combined.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
894 is in this division! Rock On!

Re: Galileo Division 2008
If my math is right there are 29-30 Regional Winners. Among those there are two time winners (40, 115, 217, 254, 1717) and a three time winner (1114). That makes for a total of 36 wins. This is really exciting! I doubt there will be a dull match. I can't wait to see what happens! :D
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
oh my god. I am scared. Hopefully team 1089 can make the most of some good alliance partners we are sure to have.
Newton Division has 33 regional wins. thats only 2 behind Galileo. I expect a shootout in Newton as well as galileo! good luck to all teams!! |

And no need to apologize for not including us, everyone should know that our robot isn't exactly one to expect to win two regionals. I don't think there's a team this year that is as lucky as we are. So if you're looking for some luck in the eliminations, maybe you should consider picking us:rolleyes:. Just kidding on that(maybe). I'm just excited to be going to Atlanta. 115 is going to Championships for the first time since 2003, so none of the current students have ever been there. And I'm excited and scared like others about being in such a stacked division. This will be fun to watch for sure. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
We used the algorithm to see what kind of matches we were in for(I know it can vary). And i noticed something in all 3 different algorithms We rarely ever went against a high number team. Most of the time it was 1500 or lower???? Any one know why? Also in the 3rd set look for match 58 you will get a kick out of that.

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Few More Historical Stats
Past World Champions-8 25(2000), 48 (1999), 65 (2003), 148 (1993), 176 (1999), 217 (2006), 330 (2005) 469 (2003), 494 (2004) Past World Finalists-9 25 (2003, 2006), 84 (1999), 121 (1998), 180 (2002), 195 (2006), 254 (2001, 2005), 343 (2003), 469 (2004), 494 (2003) More division winners than I have time to count tonight. 2 Hall of Fame teams 254 (2004), 103 (2003) This is easily the toughest division I have ever been a part of, is this the year that history changes, 254 or 1114 breaks their streak of bad luck? Are one of our 8 previous winners going to get a second victory? Can 1114 seed number 1? Will they pick 217? Where do 25, 40, 121, 254, 330, 469, 494/70, and 1717 fit in? And most importantly for whatever insane alliance comes out of this division, IS THIS THE YEAR GALILEO FINALLY GETS TO TASTE A CHAMPIONSHIP? Count me gidy with excitement. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
I can't wait for this! So many good teams around... qualifications will be intense, elims will be even better ^.^
Personally, I foresee the "blocking" strategy being used again to tear apart the top teams. All 8 alliances will be one really great hurdling machine, one good hurdling machine, and a good lapbot/moderate hurdler/defense bot. However it turns out, I'm SURE it would be a blast! |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Ok ok, we know all of the unimportant stuff now.

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Can you say Dream Team!
254, 330 and 1114. I think by far and away the best team combo out there. I think your going to need three hurdlers, that way if a bot goes down your still in the match, you just can't make up the difference making laps. Other great combos? |
Re: Galileo Division 2008

Standard dream team: 1114/*insert your team here*/any hurdler. You hope that'll happen. Or, 1114/hurdler/other robot that complements them, hurdler or no. |

Re: Galileo Division 2008
I think hybrid mode and the ability of the alliance to be able to cross lines without obstructing your partner's track will be huge. I can easily see alliances putting up 50-60 points in autonomous. If the robots in an alliance cannot avoid one another, then this number could be decreased immensely. Alliances that have RoboCoaches stearing the robot during hybrid could benefit immensely.
If you can outscore your opponents by 30 points in autonomous, that will put a lot of pressure on your opponents...especially in such a competitive division. |

Re: Galileo Division 2008
There are 7 regional champions (captain and first pick) that played together. That's more then double any other division. Should make alliance selections interesting.
LA: 330, 1717 BAE: 121, 40 NJ: 103, 25 St Louis: 148, 217 Detroit: 469, 217 Peachtree: 1319, 343 Seattle: 1983, 2046 In addition, the entire LA and BAE alliances are together. |

Team 2468 is a Rookie team and we excited about our trip. We are representing the LSR as the Rookie All Star. We are trying to figure all this out. It is going to be fun to see such a high level of competition in all divisions but this one is going to be great what I am reading.
We are in the process of trying to figure out how to scout and what we need to do at Championships. We hope we can hold our own with our autonomous and ball handling speed bot. |

Re: Galileo Division 2008
It will be interesting to see how strictly penalties are called at Nationals; At the Boilermaker Regional, penalty flags were flying out of control so defense could not even be considered. At the West Michigan Regional, physical played was allowed, and defensive robots were cutting hurlers off in the turns and fighting over the balls. It made for great play and less predictable outcomes.
Hopefully the refereeing is consistent on all five fields (and I expect it to be). I would hate to see a physical team and alliance win a division and then get penalized continuously on Einstein. |
Re: Galileo Division 2008
WOW!!!! what a division i cant wait to compete with some of the greats this yr. we hope to bring a strong defense like we did to the florida regional where we ended up 12th there. can wait to see 1114,330,217, and the many awesome robots of this yr. good luck to all and see u there.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008
Just put the most relaxed refereeing division refs on Einstein.:P

Re: Galileo Division 2008
Not only the most competitive division, but probably the most competitive competition of the year. There are a ton of unknown factors here and picking for alliances will be the most thought intensive ever.

Re: Galileo Division 2008
1114 may not seed first. I'll say it myself. It's all a luck of the draw in ATL depending on YOUR alliance partners and the ones you play against. Who knows, you could have to play several very difficult matches, in which you loose, and it lowers your rank. However, good scouting will see past the actual rank of teams.
|
Re: Galileo Division 2008

If 1114 is gonna team up with 217 then Galileo will definitley take the champsionships... Our team's in archimedes and i'm easily admitting that... |
