By losing focus on Green and letting him score twice promptly followed by Ovi being Ovi and scoring the game winner. That's how.

LETS GO CAPS!! I thought about going but decided to save the money for ATL. I got kinda scared when Alex didn't have any shots on goal through the first 2 periods, but he came through.

I'm not much of a hockey fan, but as a former Montrealer I am of course cheering for the Habs. Poor Bruins - I think the Canadiens have beaten them 11 times in a row, now.

Even though the one PP goal was pretty cheap. A man hurt on the ice and play wasn't called dead? Pretty gay. I think if he outs steve downie is be playing next game and that might get ugly.

The way the game of hockey has been enforced for the more than 15 years that I've been a fan of it state that it's basically a referee judgment call. If they think the defending player struck by the puck isn't seriously hurt (puck to the face) then they won't blow their whistles. They don't want a situation where after every blocked shot the defender will stay on the ice to get a stoppage in play, especially after a series of a minute or more of constant pressure. It was obvious that the puck was nowhere near his face when it hit him, and hit him in his lower to mid-body. It's too bad he got hit where he was hit (luckily ESPN says he's alright enough not to have surgery), and it would suck to have your team (whether you're a part of it or a fan) scored against on a play where a player was hurt, but it has happened in the past and will happen in the future. It's part of the game.

Agreed. Part of the reason I'm not a soccer fan is the "diving" that takes place late in games. I don't want something similar in the NHL.

Three games. Three trips to overtime. 2 - 1 series lead for Minnesota. The Avs-Wild series may be the best I've ever seen (at least so far). Great play and goal-tending by both teams so far in the series.

Much as it pains me to say it, I'd like to see the Avs win this one. I would love to see a classic Detroit-Colorado series in the second round. (won by Detroit, of course!)

Yup. The series is to four games, not two. Philly fans tend to get a little worked up about nothing (McNabb threw a incompletion!?!?! TRADE HIM! BOOOOOOOO!), and this is more of the same. It 'aint over until it's over.

As for the hopeful Avs-Wings series, I'd love to see that too. That rivalry hasn't quite been the same the last couple years, and I'd love to see it renewed, especially now that all the old Avs stars are back and playing well. Of course we know that Colorado will take it in the end, but it's always fun to watch. ;)

Unrelated side note, I'd love for more and better national coverage of games. Although I get Versus here, local games are covered by comcast (and Versus isn't allowed to some them). This means that I have to endure the pro-Flyers commentary rather than the closer to unbiased coverage of a nationally-broadcasted game (on NBC or Versus). I'm not saying CSN shouldn't also be able to cover them too, but it shouldn't have to be exclusive.

Only robbing is the robbing the Philly players do every time they cash their paycheck.

Flyers is the kinda team that good players start out on when they don't know better. And good players end at when the bums forgot what they knew. :yikes:

So... the Stanley Cup Finals are set:

Eastern Conference: [Pittsburgh] Penguins beat the [Philadelphia] Flyers 4 games to 1.

(I find that rather nice... I should write my school board...)

Western Conference: [Detroit] Red Wings beat the [Dallas] Stars (finally) after a 4-1 Victory tonight in Dallas, winning the series 4-2.

*end neutrality here*
GO WINGS!!!

It's been 10 years since we won a second straight, it would be nice to win #4 out of 11 years!!!

Looking forward to a great finals with Detroit vs Pittsburgh.

I tried to get finals tickets today for any game in Detroit but came up empty. Anybody that has 3 available for game 1 or 2 at a "reasonable" price let me know. I was planning on driving my 2 Wings fans from Georgia to the "Joe".

Uh... if your current location in your profile is the same as it was last year, then that call was correct probably due to you being in the Eastern Conference area of teams, calling a victory for a Western Conference team, thus making it an unbiased call.

This time around however... you live pretty darn close to the team you predict to win... :D

Sorry dude, Wings reach apparent victory in 3, and enjoy game 4 (or 5) with some fabulous show, obtaining victory.

(Then again, this is bias on my end... :p)

Even if you did use my current PA residency as a marker, it would be flawed. For one, I'd be a Flyers fan (which I'm not). Secondly Detroit and Pittsburgh (286mi) are actually closer than Philadelphia and Pittsburgh (305 mi). ;)

Penguins will win! I'm from colorado so I have to root for them, it's just the natural order of life...:p

Really- Round 1:detroit up 2-0 in series and the 8th seed (Nashville) comes back and wins 2

Round 2:Moving on...

Round 3:Wings blow a 3-0 lead and allow Stars to come back and win 2 games. (WOOHOOO Turco!!)

Round 4: If detroit stuters for a moment then Crosby (4 goals and 17 assists!!) and the Penguins will rip Osgood apart. Of course it can go either way, Detroit has Zetterberg (12 goals and 10 assists) Franzen (12 goals and 3 assists) and Datsyuk (9goals and 10 assists) who will and have done damage to Fleury

You know, this set of finals is almost making me not want to watch hockey anymore. I think that the refs are trying to single-handedly determine these games. These penalties are ridiculous. The Penguins and Wings do the exact same things, yet somehow it's only a penalty for the Wings... Guess we gotta fight everyone wearing black on the ice...

All I have to say is that it's a good thing that FIRST refs are better than these guys!

Scare is quite correct. Them last two seconds of game 6 were enough to make me sweat and go a bit pale.

Amen to that one. Also, my dad was making note as a conclusion between him and his coworkers that NBC was being biased to one team (the Penguins).
I found that, and the fact that Gary Bettman was literally shaking when he presented the cup to Lidstrom to be a bit... odd, and I will leave it a that.

I think that may just be you reacting out of your bias towards the Wings. I felt the coverage was very even, if not a slight bit biased towards Detroit*. There wasn't as much Malkin-bashing as on ESPN, but that isn't the job of the NBC crew.

*The on-ice commentary was balanced, but the reports from Pierre on the bench tended to favor the Wings. That may just be reality of the two benches though, so it's not a real issue.

As for Gary Bettman, keep in mind he had been sitting in a nice heated VIP suite the whole game, and then was on the ice. That temperature transition might give some the shivers. ;)
